I've been getting flooded with emails (most form hotmail, yahoo.com etc) from folks who filled out the form I put up at 20.com. I can't make heads or tails of it all, and after speaking with a number of brokers out there it seems that there is a good case for paying one of them a $250k commission to run a process for me.

so, I'm going to select a broker in the next week and give them a couple of month to sell it.

i set the commission structure at 5% of the total sale or 10% of any amount over $3.4m (which was my last offer). that should next the person a nice chunk of change to manage all of this....

so.... who would you pick?

$250k on commission. I can't even sell a name for $2K :D

I'm new to the trade and may not own a domain worth 1K as yet.
From my kerbside POV, Andrew at Media Options and DNS appear the brightest lights.
GUTA seems well-positioned.

Please detail the benefits of using a broker. Obviously you have asked this question to a number of people, just wondering what replies you have got.

I like your latter option, 10% for anything over your last offer. Make them work for their money.

@jason calacanis Right Of The Dot (@mcahn) just finished running the live auction at Namescon I would contact Michael Berkens about brokering, my other recommendation would be Media Options.

Full disclosure I have worked with Michael Berkens on his blog thedomains.com.

Beats me why you would want to give an agent anything, this name sells itself.

Choose the number you want, put it up for sale at that price, buyer pays all fees, first come first served.

Or,set up a private auction for verified potential buyers and do it that way, much more hassle though.

Great name, good luck.

I would recommend Andrew Rosener at http://www.mediaoptions.com . He has brokered some huge domains, and more importantly gives very honest, personalized service. I have worked with him as both a buyer and seller for $200,000+ deals.

Do 3% of the amount below 3 mill and 8% of the amount above.

So if the broker sells for 5 mill, then he gets 3 x 0.03 + (5-3)x0.08 = 250K, if sells for 3 mill, will get 90K only

It's like anything in this industry, you can either sell for less than your expectations or you can be patient and sell for exactly how much you want to sell for.

A broker will try and lock in with a 6 month+ contract for a reduced commission and the domain will end up selling itself with very minimal leg work.

Is potentially paying $250k worth it, yes. The ROI is already amazing, so it might seem like a lot of money but it's money well spent. It's clear that Jason does not want to make a full time job of this - so having a broker dealing with hundreds of eMails, negotiations, and getting the price you want, is a win.

It could take a week, or it could take a many months - you just never know.

Jason,

Though I don't know you (other than listening to Twist and attending Launch), I do know Andrew Rosener of mediaoptions.com. He's experienced and energetic, and his personality seems somewhat similar to yours. If you two "click", he'd be a great choice. If you don't... move on.

I don't know George at Guta.com, but domaining friends I trust recommend him for China deals (the most likely location of your buyer).

Give both five minutes. I would be especially inquisitive about their thoughts on the time horizon for maximum yield.

If those don't feel right, I'd get an opinion from Frank Schilling. Let me know if you need anyone's number/email.

I don't see 20.com on 4.cn. Put it on 4.cn where the money is. If you want 5 mil put it on and wait until you get your price. If you are in a hurry to sell then you will need to drop.

Jason all I want is 1% of the sale for this idea
jason this is a no brainer , Remember me when you sell it. go to godaddy or maybe another domain related company who bought a spot have them advertise the auction via sealed bid before the superbowl with a 4 million dollar reserve this will create a buzz, they can even send emails out to millions of their clients. Big internet companies will want this domain name in fact all big companies will.

The winner of the sealed bid will be announced the last 5 seconds of godaddys commercial preferrably by a presidential candidate that will do it for free. The winner of the domain besides getting bragging rights ,will have the whole world know their new domain name, that my friend is your best bet 4.5 million for a 30 second commercial and you cant get more than 4 million for this would be a joke. There will only be winners ,the losers will not be announced.
Godaddy would look like a star that would be their commission. Remember billions of eyeballs will be watching. Remember all these high power domain brokers ,were already shopping this around ,with or without your ok. If they could have sold it anyone of them would have brought you a buyer.

Numbers don't lie - the team at Sedo pushes some big sales, year after year - you'd be well serviced to have a at least a chat with them. I believe Dave Evanson is quite good there.

I told you what I would do ,but if you have to pick one guy besides selling it yourself it would have to be
Rick Schwartz if this guy could get almost 9 million for porno.com he can get that for 20.com ,hell'''' he will probably give a lot you more than 3.4 million himself BUT YOU MUST APPROACH THE KING YOURSELF,and I mean this.
