After a domain expires from the registrar (assuming no drop buys from auction), how many days does it take for the domain to become available for normal purchase?

Normally after 75-90 days(Including on-hold, redem period, and pending delete.)
But mostly depends on the registrat.

Here is an example of one name that I am currently in an auction:

Lets assume that nobody is in the auction and it drops. When can I go to a service like godaddy and buy the domain for $9(regular fee)?

For example: lets say sijdufghg.com is going to drop. There will probably be no bidders in the auction, so why pay the $60 on the drop when I could wait and buy it for regular fee.

If no one backorders the name with SnapNames, the name will eventually be released to the regular drop process. It will go into REDEMPTIONPERIOD status for 30 days, then on to PENDINGDELETE for 5 more days, then drop. I don't know when SnapNames/Network Solutions will put the name into REDEMPTIONPERIOD, so my best advice is to keep checking the WHOIS and follow it through this delete process.
