We’re seeing massive & abnormal traffic spikes since this morning which do not seem organic. This is causing some service interruption for our users. We're working diligently on resolving the issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Will be interesting if they later share more on what happened and what steps to prevent it again. That said, almost all the time DAN seems very stable to me.

Without realising the 'attack' was taking place I was in the process of opening an account on Dan and wondered why the confirmation email from them was taking so long, now I know. Anyway finally managed to login and put 'Fig.ht' on the site as a listing.
I must admit that having read the threads on this outage and there seemingly have been a few other recent outages I am surprised that this has gone on intermittently for a couple of months.
They probably just hit them directly at AWS targeting their ips. Cloudflare doesn't catch any of that traffic at all.
AWS isn't the best when it comes to providing DDOS mitigation anyway. They were taken down themselves last year for quite a while resulting in thousands and thousands of customers to go offline. Could very well have been a result of someone targeting someone else, not DAN directly, just like when AWS S3 was targeted.
It's costly as well. AWS premium subscription is like $25K/year and I don't think that includes additional traffic which could add up to a pretty nasty bill.
