Anyone else having trouble connecting to Dan.com this morning or is it just me again !?
Lol at "again" in the title.
Even though i cant seem to open...
i think you might be right, @DAN.COM
It's down for me
Down for me too.
It's down for me too.
For some reason this thread reminds me of a Forest Gump / Lieutenant Dan.
down for me too.
They are up again but not safe connection, that's bad.
We just need an official announcement @DAN.COM, @LaszloSchenk
You guys usually remarkably solid,
Down for me as well...
connection is secure when i log in
I feel like marketplace like dan should never be down, I know that shit happens sometimes but it needs to be fixed quickly
I see they are up now but their web speed seems slow.
Main site appears to be back up but when I click on a url in a social media post for example it just comes up with a message connection not secure 1?
Just as I said that, all seems to be back up & running again !
May they did an update (?)
Down for me too
We’re seeing massive & abnormal traffic spikes since this morning which do not seem organic. This is causing some service interruption for our users. We're working diligently on resolving the issue. Apologies for the inconvenience.
Hope 'they' are looking at my domains Lol !
Seems like either they are being DDoSed, or, someone maybe trying to increase the traffic/visits on their domains through automation... They should use a good load balancer, and WAF like Cloudflare to deal with such instances, because they are supposed to offer a blockchain-backed reliable service...
Yes noticed them down a couple of times, also same with Dynadot site for a few minutes.
Thats off. Because looking at their DNS, they are using CloudFlare so the traffic must be looking legit to CF and getting passed on to their servers.
Will be interesting if they later share more on what happened and what steps to prevent it again. That said, almost all the time DAN seems very stable to me.
Without realising the 'attack' was taking place I was in the process of opening an account on Dan and wondered why the confirmation email from them was taking so long, now I know. Anyway finally managed to login and put 'Fig.ht' on the site as a listing.
I must admit that having read the threads on this outage and there seemingly have been a few other recent outages I am surprised that this has gone on intermittently for a couple of months.
They probably just hit them directly at AWS targeting their ips. Cloudflare doesn't catch any of that traffic at all.
AWS isn't the best when it comes to providing DDOS mitigation anyway. They were taken down themselves last year for quite a while resulting in thousands and thousands of customers to go offline. Could very well have been a result of someone targeting someone else, not DAN directly, just like when AWS S3 was targeted.
It's costly as well. AWS premium subscription is like $25K/year and I don't think that includes additional traffic which could add up to a pretty nasty bill.
