I'll share daily lists of valuable dropped domains here on NamePros based on my everyday work and research for HumbleWorth, a free domain value estimator I'm building.

Your feedback will help me improve my recommendations and HumbleWorth's accuracy. In my previous posts, you all snapped up 30% of the domains I recommended. Hopefully, that means you found them valuable.

Sadly, someone has written a script or bot to scoop up the highest-valued names immediately after they are posted on your website. It doesn't matter how fast I move, they're gone in 60 seconds or less. A shame, really.

Yeah, sorry, everyone. So it does look like someone is scraping and registering most of the domains almost instantly. They're all going through the same registrar, so I assume it's the same person (Google LLC). I'll take it as a compliment, but I am looking for a solution if anyone has some ideas?

I have a few possible solutions, but stopping a determined scraper is difficult. At the moment, I'm thinking of updating the list every hour and adding some shuffling.

So today, I present to you the 4 domains that the bot forgot to register:

HAHA! Classic. We can switch the real gems over to a new secret "Namepros only" URL and just post a constantly updating list of junk to the current URL for a few days.

Maybe this is a dumb idea... is it possible to present the domain names as images instead of text strings? I.e. an image that says scubacruises.com instead of having it spelled out in text characters? Then the scraper won't have anything to scrape...

This is one possible solution. A very good one. However, depending on how determined the scraper is (ie, how much money they're making selling the domains), they could use some sort of OCR.

My temporary solution is to update the gems hourly on HumbleWorth (I'll still only post daily here). So I suppose we'll call this the hourly dropped gems for the next while. Every hour it'll remove the taken domains and replace them with domains lower down on the list. The best names will always show up just after the drop, but there'll always be a healthy list. Maybe this will land up being a better approach in the long run.

I agree, as a programmer it would be harder to scrape text from an image, especially if you don’t use alt text/title, etc.

Also how about Captcha access to view the page?

Although thinking about it for a second... the scraper probably has their bot set to scrape "when this page updates"... So it will probably not stop them, they'll just do their bot thang every hour.

@KingBilly, if a bot scraped and registered all the domains every hour, they'd probably lose a lot of money on registration fees. I obviously have a lot of faith in these dropped gems, or I wouldn't publish them, but I still feel they need the keen eye of a domain investor to pick out the best ones for their portfolio.

Hi Greg, I came across your site last month and it has been a very useful tool to me as a new domainer. However, I observe a few 'wrong' evaluations on some domain names. See example below:

Domain Name	Auction	Marketplace
Promring.com	$8,600	$40,784
Promrings.com	$3,590	$18,221
promisering.com	$0	$154
Promiserings.com	$0	$40

Here is how I came I came to the conclusion that HumbleWorth's evaluation was wrong:

Promring has a godaddy Estimated Value of $1,588​

This domain dropped and was re-registered few days ago.

Promrings has a godaddy Estimated Value of $1,396​

This domain also dropped and has not been registered as at this time.

Promisering has a godaddy Estimated Value of $8,524​

This domain was registered in 2001 and is currently on sale at Venture-dot-com

Promiserings has a godaddy Estimated Value of $15,600​

This domain was registered in 2000 and the website is a thriving site.


I believe HumleWorth algorithms erroneously swapped it estimated values of Promisering and Promiserings for Promring and Promrings respectively.

I have noticed this mistake with some other domains. I am writing this to help you in your effort to improve HumbleWorth's algorithms because the website has been very useful to me since last month I started using it.

You're totally right about those off estimations. It's all part of the fine-tuning process as I slowly perfect HumbleWorth. These quirky edge cases are like gold for tweaking things, so thanks for pointing it out.
