Cybersquatting?

Ok so maybe this is more of a Trademark issue but I'm not sure. GBHots.net is a Great Britain Hosting site and I registered GBHosts.com because GB stands for Gigabyte. If you ask me, gigabyte is about as generic as you can get. The other day someone accused me of cybersquatting which I had never heard of until that person brought it up. So my question is, even if they do have GBHosts.net copyrighted or trademarked, they don't own the rights to GBHosts.com so I can do what I please with it as long as I don't claim to be Great Britain Hosts. Right?

Am I ok here? Would GBHosts.net have a case?

IMO GBHosts is not very generic. There is potential for confusion given that both domain names are used for hosting business.

However, what is confusing is that the layouts for both sites are very similar. Did you clone their layout ? No wonder they are pissed.

i wouldnt call it squatting more like taking the mickey!

gbhost and gbhost are exactly the same thing, your thinking its cool i'll call it something else, that wont wash really, and with you both in the same field, with near enough identical websites - your asking for trouble,

that said, i wonder why there didnt reg that name lol, its a nice one!

The others are right... and you should remove the names from your post for protection. use (dot) or (.) to help mask it so search engines wont come up.

Identical site names and doing the same thing with a similar site... you are s.o.l. unless you can prove that you regged the name first and designed the site first, in which case it could be an attempt to reverse hijack. Otherwise, you are essentially a cybersquatter.
