Current Events Domains

Has anybody here tried to get domain names tied to current events, and had success with them, or are they too transitory to be usefull?

By current events I mean natural disasters, celebrity scandals... things that can easily get fogotten within a month or two>

I registered birdgate.com when Cheney shot his buddy quail shooting, and it still gets some traffic (it's just parked).

and of course, just in case, I had to grab britneyspearssextape.info, 'cause you know that's gonna happen sooner or later! the OVT on that term is 250000.

Unless the current event "has legs" (Like a "watergate" or "lewinskydress" or "missionaccomplished" or something) then you have a very small window in which to sell.

And profiting off natural disasters is somewhat taboo. Strike that, it's incredibly taboo.
