Hi,

The title of this post should be self-explanatory:

How does the average CTR for a mini site, for this example, let's use the website RodeoDrive.com, using Adsense (developed by AEIOU.com)

compare VS

The same domain, say parked in Parked.com?

Share your thoughts, or better yet, your actual first-hand experiences.

thx

in the case of rodeo drive, i believe a mini-site would trump parking. but bear in mind parked.com allows you to add content, so you don't have to compromise.

i say this because "Rodeo Drive" is a term people would want information about. "Rodeo Drive" isn't a product or a service. if you parked it, what links exactly would you be advertising on it?

toys.com, stocks.com, videogames.com, parking makes sense
business.com, mysteries.com, 888.com, mini-sites make sense

if that makes sense

If you're looking "only" at ctr the ratio depends on the site design but it is ALWAYS lower than a good parking template. That doesn't mean profit will be lower on a minisite, just the percentage of clicks you get will be lower. Usually revenue drops when you first develop and then if you did a good job of development it builds back up to more than you would have made parked.

Think of it like this, if you owned widgets.com and put a parking template on there what the end user sees is a list of ads for widgets. Whether they want to buy a widget, or just to find out what a widget is they are going to click the ad to find out more. With a mini-site if all they want is to find out what a widget is they won't click, they'll read your site. If they decide to buy, then they'll click. What happens is that CTR will drop drastically, but advertisers will pay more (sometimes a lot more) for a click because the visitor is genuinely interested in buying something.

To give you an idea of the difference in range, I took one of my domains that gets traffic and tried to develop it. CTR dropped from 18% down to 2%.

But with a minisite, it's your own adcode - not some parking co. spilt

And more importantly, if done right, your keyword or key phrased domain, will climb in search engine rankings with a minisite that has good articles, keyword-rich, etc.

It's harder, if not impossible, to climb in rankings for a parked name.

parked names will bring very little vistitors and will not rank more in aby SEO and also with adsence.
