Addon Domains - I don't quite understand them.

In WebHost Manager, there are a few options:
Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that are not registered

Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that resolve to other servers (ie domain transfers) [This can be a major security problem. If you must have it enabled, be sure to not allow users to park common internet domains.]

Prevent users from parking/adding on common internet domains. (ie hotmail.com, aol.com)

What good would it be to addon a domain such as AOL.com when you don't control the DNS for AOL.com?

Off the internet from google search

"Addon Domains

Addon domains are excellent for the webmaster with a few sites and doesn't want to pay for another account because they don't need the extra bill, web space or bandwidth.

For example, let's say your main domain name is bigbelly.com but you also own ilikesweets.com and yummyberries.com. With addon domains, you can host ilikesweets.com and yummyberries.com for free!

Addon domains simply create new directories in your public_html directory so when someone types http://www.yummyberries.com in their browser, they are sent to http://yummy.bigbelly.com.

Addon domains share your total bandwidth and disk space, they also get their own cgi-bin and statistics."

OH! I didn't know this either!

It wouldn't do any good of course. Sometimes users test out features in Cpanel and add names like Yahoo.com or AOL.com just to test it out.

Generally you would want to keep these options set 'off' if you offer hosting to other people. The second option (Allow Creation of Parked/Addon Domains that resolve to other servers) is useful sometimes if you want to setup hosting on your server for a domain that is hosted elsewhere that you plan on moving over.
