.mobi Could it be a conspiracy?

Is it maybe possible that a bunch of rich mobi haters got their heads in one hat and decided to let one of them outbid everyone for those top .mobi domains and then to let the bidder amongst them ( the bloke who has come out on DN forum and claimed he purchased all 6 of these top .mobi's) make a statement saying he does not plan on developing them but might sell later. They know they have 6 months before they have to have the sites developed but they figure this way they can create such a controversy that they can damage and sink the .mobi boat. That is the plan behind the purchase of these 6 very inportant .mobi names. These names are the backbone that can make or break .mobi as an extension. In my opinion they want to protect their .com investments and are prepared to go way out to stop .mobi. The money they spent on these 6 domains is peanuts to them when weighing up these considerations. Just my dark theory.

Put this in with the "Elvis is still alive", "The government is hiding aliens" and "The moon landing was a hoax" theories.

Why the heck would anyone spend over a million dollars on .mobi names with the hope of ruining it, and how will these names "make or break" the extension? The fact that the buyer has said straight out that he is simply speculating but that is probably the case for 95%+ of the premium names being sold. Having said that saying that he plans to resell in the near term wouldn't be sending out good vibes.

Binary, as you know I usually enjoy reading your posts - so hope you would understand if I disagree with this one.

My honest opinion is that this scenario is extremely unlikely.

the $ is peanuts to some. no six names'll break the extension. even if he has them, plans to flip them are fine. i would just rather see nice corps. getting them and using them with marketing purposes and helping .mobi get more mainstream. who knows what press will come from this btw, and what types..

Okay ...Like I said..it's just a dark theory ..aka "fantasy" idea that I had. I personally dont believe it is quite in the realm of probability but I do enjoy dramatizing things sometimes and let myself get carried away. I read too many conspiracy plot type stories :)

Cool, and I also think it might be related to reading too many of the anti-mobi conspiracy theories - very hard to avoid lately:)

Like what some people here have mentioned, I also don't think that these few names will 'break or make' .mobi extension.
The real loss would be for the buyer if not properly developed imo.

I could buy keywordgame.mobi, develop it nicely and advertise it (let people know the site exists) and get traffic through cell phone internet surfers.

Is flipping allowed? I thought there was a dev. requirement?

Actually if he were to market them to top end-users in those industries then he might make a very nice profit, and we could have some very nice .Mobi websites in six months. Do not make the mistake of assuming that since domainers were aware of the auctions and what was at stake, that top industry executives were. If he has the connections to those guys it could be done.

BTW - the government IS hiding dead aliens.
