type an english phrase in google with quotation marks, 3 words or less, and see if it's available in .com...whoever finds an available domain with the highest google count wins 10 NP$ from each competitor...so for example, if there's 5 people who entered, the winner will get 40 NP$. Contest ends a week after the highest entry was posted...so if someone has posted a phrase with a higher google count than you, you still have a week to find a higher one. In order to win, the person who currently has the winning phrase is the one who has to check the ending time, because they have to post "I WON" after the 7 days are up, (168 hours)...so if they are late in posting the "I WON" message, they might still not win if someone else finds a better phrase before they post their "I WON" message....Anyway, just an idea...maybe someone wants to modify it before the game starts, or maybe it's not such a great game, I don't know... I haven't actually found a phrase yet,...just an idea that came to me while sitting here at the computer.

this might not be as easy as if first appears. I only spent a few minutes looking, but thought of an unlikely domain phrase, "what in tarnation" which shows 25,600 in google. I thought I'd get things started, but it's already taken as a .com...well, I'll look some more later.

Hi
Here's my try... just remove the quotes while you search on google...

'my-page' gets 36,600,000. my-page.com is unregistered.

Woooh... tiring job... everything from selfstart.com to got your mail.com seems to be registered!!!

And yeah... even norightturn.com is registered :(

I didn't expect such high google results! I'd say "listen to the" is still tops, as "Oldest to Newest" in quotes gets 44,700,000
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q="Oldest+to+Newest"&btnG=Search&meta=

Anyway, since I suggested the idea, I'll give 20 NP$ to the winner, so with 3 other people who have entered so far, the pot is worth 50 NP$. The winner of course can't give theirself 10 NP$, so if nobody else tops "listen to the" I guess wyattt gets 40 NP$ ...don't have time to look right now, will try later...doubt I can top 169,000,000 results though.

I actually think "Up to the" is a nice phrase and has been used quite a bit for building a domain, as you can see here. http://domain-search.domaintools.com/?q=Uptothe&de_search=Search&filter=y&bh=A&pool=C&bc=25 Also, that link shows it was actually registered as a domain at one time. Tried for abit just now and found "look at the" (lookatthe.com available), but at 462,000,000, it's not even half the current leader at over a billion. I think we probably have a winner already. If not, I'm pretty sure it will include the word "the". :) Maybe if a similar contest was run later it might make it a bit more interesting if the word "the" couldn't be used. For each future contest another word could be eliminated, making each contest a bit more challenging...I don't know, just doing a bit of brainstorming.

edit: I find it kind of interesting that "up to" gets less results than "up to the"...it's only logical that "up to" would be used more times than "up to the"...guess that shows a bit about how google works.

I agree with eliminating words like "the, and, a" as it
seems to change the results quite abit
EX:
"up to"
Results 1 - 10 of about 144,000,000 for "up to"
"up to a"
Results 1 - 10 of about 889,000,000 for "up to a".
Seems that the 2 word phrase is all black - but when used with "a"
only the "a" is black...

"in to"
Results 1 - 10 of about 32,900,000 for "in to"
"in to the"
Results 1 - 10 of about 472,000,000 for "in to the"

I think any word that shows black in the results and not a blue link,
shouldn't be used, that will make it really hard to get those types
of numbers. I just ran a few 3 word phrases that were all blue links
and it was pretty dismal in results

Well it appears I didn't think the rules thru very well. Sometimes, when reading or listening to something, I'd hear a phrase and wonder if it was taken as a domain. I'd almost always find the phrase was taken as a dot com...so I thought it might be fun to see how many high google ranking phrases could be found that were NOT being used as a domain. Never expected a result of over a billion! That actually might be the highest google ranking ever. I think a similar contest with better rules might be more worthwhile, however I still find the results interesting. I expect you'll be picking up a few NP $. :)

It's amazing how many phrases are gone as a .com
I enjoyed the search :)

But there are a few phrases that can beat mine
I just hope no one else finds them :hehe:

I agree that the no "the, as, it" thing would make for a fun contest next round, but I'm still looking for phrases that beat mis_chiff's.

Fun contest, though I don't have a very good chance of pulling out a win here.
