Hey Pros,
I got into domaining before that word even became popular, I do believe. Specifically, I dabbled in domains before 2000, and even sold a couple, including clickandbet.com for 2K. However, I let several possible moneymakers expire--like 24-7Sex.com and Sounds2go.com.
I became "re-interested" in domaining early this year, and I've purchased a number of them. And I really appreciate the advice and assistance provided on this Web site.
My question is: does NamePros.com have a specific post (or two or three) explaining how to best monetize domains? I'm decidedly right-brained and thus have no clue. For example, one of the domains (F-Cup Cookies.com) generated $9.01 at NameDrive.com off of just 3 clicks--and a rather pedestrian-looking Web page.
On the other hand, Bodis produced a creative, graphically-pleasing Web page after I transferred the above-mentioned Web site and supplied thorough input--and it's generated 9 views and 9 clicks. But only $2.04 has been generated from these clicks (ostenibly, at 100$ revenue-sharing). I know this "discrepancy" is far from random.
Obviously, there's a disconnect, and I'm at fault, I'm sure. Bottom line: I'm not understanding why certain "actions" help to optimize parking. Somehow search engines play a part, I'm sure. And of course there's always Google's Adsense, which mystifies me.
Finally, I was reading a thread wherein a member asked fellow members to discuss their favorite "parkers." At the end of the thread, one post-er replied, "None. I prefer to customize my sites myself, and receive $50 rather than 10 cents."
Obviously, I'm confused. I'm a writer-educator and would love to write a piece explaining the variables of domaining--if I only knew them. I realize this post is long, and I tell my students that "Less Is More" when writing is involved, but I hope to hear from some of you.
