So, true story:

Last night on Conan (Yes, it's pathetic I watch 1:00AM television) he was ad-libbing about a Horny Manatee character that is used from time to time, and he said (before sipping from his mug) to check him out on "hornymanatee.com"

Well, at the time the domain was registered, but only after the show ran through standards a couple hours before it aired. http://whois.domaintools.com/hornymanatee.com

Tonight on the show he explained the process and said that anytime they mention any domain on the air, NBC makes all of its shows buy the name for a 10 year period (Register).

Good golly I'd like to have one of them mention a random website I owned as an aside

You think MarkMonitor asks them which domains to renew? They just send an invoice for everything, probably once a year.
