Competitor site gets high Google rank from my client's name!

My client, a lawyer, wants to know how his old law firm, which he is no longer associated with in any way, manages to get high rankings when you Google his name. I can't find any use of his name in their HTML code on the front page, and site search of his name in their site search box turns up nothing much.

Any ideas as to how they could get this continual mileage from his name, even though he left the firm several years ago? My client's website is martingarbus.com

Thanks a lot,

Phil

That means that there are links to the firm's website that have your client's name in it. That is how Google's algorithm works, it puts a ton of weight on links.

Search on Google for "here". Adobe Reader is #1, but the word "here" isn't anywhere on their website. This is because there are a ton of links that tell people to click "here" to download Adobe Reader.

On a similar and more humorous note, search for "miserable failure" on Google. Bush is #1. This is called a Googlebomb, where a bunch of people got together and linked the words "miserable failure" to Bush's White House page. Conservative counterforces countered back with Michael Moore and got him to #2, and now it looks like Jimmy Carter was Googlebombed, and is ahead of Moore.

thanks for the ideas. Btw I should have mentioned that the old firm is FKKS, while his current firm is dglaw.com

Thanks a lot for the info.

This is quite interesting specially with the new Google update that just took place and many sites with unrelated links dropped in PR and ranking.
