Vintage Label dot com with no spaces. I bought it a few weeks ago and was going to desing a site about vintage clothing. Guy who called used to own it and let it slip by accident and he runs a labeling company for wine bottles etc. Pyramid Labels is the company name. He said his compeitor is named vintage label 99 what would you charge for the domain. I am thinking 2k as he will be able to get some of his competitors business with this domain. Any thoughts? (found info that said his company sales last year was $560,000 and business is located in napa california

$2000, That sounds a fair price to me. You could try to screw the guy over, but what dose that achieve?

The guy is obviously going to use the "poor me i forgot to rereg it" line, and you should use the "but i was going to develop it" line.

My guess is at $2000 he wont make the same mistake twice.

Sounds about right but I've found when the former owners approach you, they basically want it for next to nothing thinking they somehow have rights to it.

based on how poor of a website his company has i would not expect much $$ from him.

does he reproduce vintage labels? thats might be the real reason he wants it.

you talked to him on the phone? people always offer an amount on the phone based on my experiences

accually a nice name dont think hes the only one you can sell it to, but he is deffentaly where the quick profit is.

i am thinking 2k too but i would get him to offer first even though he will only lowball

$2,000 sounds good to me to. Congrats and what looks likes like a quick return on your investment.

Yah, I do believe your off. Whenever I get the phone call or email about how I "stole" their domain name - then the sob story about how they need it back - I dont even bother selling to them.

The truth is - if you offer him 2k for a domain name he paid $10 per year for - hes going to feel like your trying to really stick it to him. If hes a small business owner (and it looks like he is) hes going to be ticked off. They ususally threaten legal action (which never pans out)....

Honestly? If you want to sell it - price it in the low-mid xxx range. $400-600 - if you want to sell it and make some quick cash. Beyond that - either hold or develop.

I will say this on a side note - this domain name sounds and feels good. I think its a great brand name, and it makes sense for a few industries. Even if you opt not to sell, Im sure another buyer will come around someday.

Good advice :tu:

Basically it comes down to how badly you want to sell this name or how much you need the money.

the more i look into this the more i like this name lol i bet VINTAGE 99 LABEL would give you more than your feller would. The down side is the ecomony going to suck for private label winneries for a while. I would hold this before selling low-mid xxx

It's a nice name. VintageLabels.com, the plural, of course is much nicer and seems to get some traffic, being based on products. Your name, the singular, is stronger for branding, whether it pertains to packaging labels or music labels. It's not a weak name and, unless you really want a little cash, I'd hold on for a little while. I'd appraise:
reseller, or end user quick sale = mid xxx
good end user = $1K - 2.5

That's what I was thinking. I really like the music label idea, in fact, that's the first thing I thought of when I read the name. I would expect a decent amount for that one. I know these guys know what they're talking about, especially when it comes to how former domain owners will react and I wouldn't doubt it if he doesn't offer you the 2k you want. If he doesn't, pass on him. There is way too much potential for a name like that to just settle for less.

Why not just tell him it's not for sale - sounds like a good name you could keep anyway

I think others have given you good advice. The story you tell though sounds a bit strange. Why did he mentioned the name of his competitor? If i was trying to reclaim a name, I certainly wouldnt mention a potential competitor and bidder. Do your homework to make sure this is not a scam. Ask for an offer in writing on company letter head and check the signature against the whois for their company website and use escrow if you are selling in the $xxxx. Its a good name.

I know it is the Pyaramindlabels.com I have been to their website and have looked at the contact info in the whois for their domain etc. I also archive.org the domain and see it was in fact their domain. The guy is not real web savy he has been paying register.com $35 bucks a year for at least 10 years on his 6 domains he owned/still owns. I will def use escrow.com for any transaction over $750. I love this name that is why I wont sell it very cheap I think it has potential in many areas, clothing, wine, music etc.
$1500 is a fair price and if he dosent like it then I will keep it and I am going to offer it to his competitor as well
