Hi. I have had a blog for the past 2 years which is a short latin name dot com (I don't want to post the name here because I don't want this to be Googled). I have a fairly loyal readership and love the name. I have also thought about starting a publishing company under this name as well. I suppose it doesn't really matter what the name is, since it isn't exactly for sale, but rather, someone really wants it. Recently, someone approached me via e-mail to ask if I would consider selling the domain name to him, and at what price. I responded that I was rather attached to the name (I am, as it has a sentimental meaning to me as well as being a really great name), but that if he made a really good offer, I could be persuaded, as I do need to finance my current publishing venture. I asked what business he was in. He responded that he wanted me to give him a price, and declined to make me an offer. I have no idea what to charge. I do know that it wouldn't be worth it to me to sell for less than $10,000, but have no idea if that is outrageously high or way to low (considering I have no idea what his business is). I am pretty close to the poverty line myself, so would want to get as much as possible for it. I don't want to let go of what I think is a really great name for a company. What would you do in this situation? How much do these names go for when there is an expressed interest by another party?

Sounds like you don't want to sell your domain. Why not start at $20,000 and see where that takes you/him.

You lose nothing by starting high if you have no real desire to sell. Or conversely. Just turn it back on them and refuse to give a price. Tell them to either give you an offer or move along.

Thanks for the advice. I think I will go high, like $20,000, and see what he says. Honestly, I don't really want to sell, but $15,000 is the amount of a loan I am about to take out to finance a business venture, so who knows? Thanks, all!
