Hi! A comment I got on Sedo from a prospective buyer: "Stop asking such a ridiculous price for a domain you have no rightful ownership of." The domain is hyper.eu. It's intersting what they meant under "you have no rightful ownership of". Even if it is TM'ed (I'm not sure) it is a disctionary word so no one could take it from me (I hope). And yes, I was asking 5K EUR ;) because internet is gonna reach even more aspects of life shortly and I think .eu is gonna rock! :) But the buyer contacted me first. And I think I have rightful ownership of the domain ;)

Best reply would be no reply.
Silence is gold in this case.

Period!
IMO.

your right this is a ridiculous price I apologize, how's $4999 sound?
:hehe: Or even better, $4999.99. I had a guy once say to me, "What part of $100 don't you understand?" I just sent him a message by cancelling the negotiations. Idiots!

perhaps this is an uninformed reseller or end user thats frugal.

He assumes you are one of those evil "cybersquatters". Just ignore these. however, in all honest opinion, I dont think any reseller would pay even close to 5k. Thats why i think the guy made that comment. Of course end user hunting is not bad.

You've got to wonder about someone who starts a negotiation with someone over something they want, by starting with negative comments and accusations. Probably not the best negotiation strategy, huh?

yoshiwara's angle on this is right on. The prospective buyer has demonstrated that he is the amateur in this negotiation: 1)He made an amateurish comment. 2)He didn't have his facts straight. You are the professional. Just brush off the comment- no need to defend your position Come back w/ a positive, professional "auto-response" ie "Thankyou for your inquiry. We look forward to this oppurtunity of servicing your domain name needs." At most, throw in something like "A staff review of the valuation of this domain confirms that our original appraisal reflects it's fair market value." (In other words, stick your misinformation and the petty comments up your a~~!) :)

This is a great advice - I have always admired this kind of reasoning, coolness, and determination to remain a true professional. I am way too hot headed and sometimes I get into unnecessary exchanges over nothing (just like in this case) - then they always turn out to be both, a waste of my time and a definite loss of a potential client as well as his/her family & friends :yell: Whereas in situations where I kept my cool, lots of times I have actually managed to come to mutually satisfactory agreements!
I'd definitely respond with Grrilla's quotes and not even give it a second thought. You can't take crap people say to you in this business so personally, it'll eat you up and take away from your productivity - but if you respond the Grrilla way, it may actually make your clients trust you more and re-thing their own approach to the situation.
On the other hand, you may also get a short response containing two words, one of which starts with an F and the other with a Y - in which case, cancel the negotiations knowing that you are the winner, because you did not stoop down a few levels and instead, you remained true to your professional self!
Good luck!

"Oh...thats why i've only have 17 offers! Thanks for your help." :p

Just ignore this guy. I never bother to reply to such fools.

That's a legitimate response, as well. The use of "ridiculous" in the comment is a good indicator that the prospect and you are not going to get close to a price and a sale won't result, anyways. A non-response to this type of comment is a response.

Hi guys! Thank you for all your support and comments on this! Some messages gifted me with a good laugh - thanks! :):) I mean, yeah - we are resellers or speculators but that's how the world is. There is a layer of speculators around absolutely everything monetarily valueable in the world. Economic monsters - banks and similar financial institutions - have their trading desks in every stock exchange where there do nothing but speculating and making billions that way. And they aren't even perceived as 'speculators' by the public, I mean there is no negative implication.

I've stopped the negotiation BTW. That's right - absolutely no point in any conversations here except either for a cold business reply or just stopping the negotiation.

You will find folks like that in any business, and they are usually not worth negotiating with, frankly. I posted a freelance writing job online and got one such response immediately, cutting down the amount offered for the rights I was requesting. Also got 70 actual replies offering articles for sale at the stated price, some of which were from authors making a living in that specific industry.

Grrilla's response would be a good one, but personally I doubt it is even worth replying to this person.
