Comment I got on Sedo

Hi! A comment I got on Sedo from a prospective buyer: "Stop asking such a ridiculous price for a domain you have no rightful ownership of." The domain is hyper.eu. It's intersting what they meant under "you have no rightful ownership of". Even if it is TM'ed (I'm not sure) it is a disctionary word so no one could take it from me (I hope). And yes, I was asking 5K EUR because internet is gonna reach even more aspects of life shortly and I think .eu is gonna rock! But the buyer contacted me first. And I think I have rightful ownership of the domain

If someone really thought you didn't have a right to that domain, they wouldn't go about telling you like that. Looks like someone really wants the name but can't afford the price.

As Dave said, raise the price. 10k should do it, then see what he/she says!

Does your whois on the name state you're somewhere outside of Europe? I'm too lazy to look it up, and that would be what IMO the buyer might be referring to. Either way, I'd say cancel the negotiations...don't even bother trying to justify yourself to them. I would be tempted to message them back saying "If that's your stance, go register something that's available and stop wasting my time". Seriously...

I"m surprised sedo let that message go through. Other than the canned messages, all messages are screened by sedo before released. Maybe they are only moderating those that try to circumvent their system though, and thought this was okay.

I think Sedo is only concerned with not allowing the exchange of personal information.

The prospective seller may be a noob or he is pulling your legs. Or he simply wants the name for cheap. If he continues to give you a run-round you can hang off (break the negociations)

You know, I had all kinds of flip answers in mind --- until I saw this. Totally right on. If he really is interested it will encourage him, If he is a smart a-- kid (likely IMO) then it will put him in his place.

Maybe they've changed it, but I have raised the price in a sedo negotiation in the past when I got what I deemed unreasonable offers.

I once had an offer of something like $100 and countered with something like $5,000. They countered with $105, so I countered with $4,000. They countered with somthing like $106, so I rasied it back to $6,000 instead of just cancelling. Didn't make a sale, but I made my point.

I just received a ridiculous offer of $250 for one of my domains that comes with a website that makes roughly $700/month - I got so annoyed I countered with $225,000.oo - SEDO had no problem with that!

Don't sweat it. I've run into people who don't know the value on either end of teh transaction. I made a $xxx offer on a .info domain on Sedo that had an 81 OVT without extension (generous I thought). And the seller countered with $275,000. Apparently he just didn't really want to sell it.

You can't really reply with this, unless you don't want the sale. But, it would be my reaction:

"If I don't have the right to the name, why not contact the registry? I'm sure they will explain EURid's 'Dispute Resolution/ADR' policy to you in great detail. Besides, if you don't think I have a right to the name, why would you be stupid enough to offer me money for the name? Not thinking that whomever does (in your view) have the right to it, won't go after you in a ADR proceeding? Just curious as to your state of mind, on the issue, before we proceed....
