I am trying to decide if I am going to renew these recently acquired domains or not. They expire in 2 weeks.

work.com.pt
free.com.pt
single.com.pt
car.com.pt
vip.com.pt
host.com.pt

They look great. Really Great. For short valuable key words, you can't really get much better than "host" or "free" (with the exception of probably sex and money).

When visiting Google.com.pt it redirects to Google.pt. Yahoo.com.pt gives an error page. Does that mean that the ccTLD com.pt isn't even worth while for the majors to be interested in it?

The renewal price is 68 Euro per domain (which means $530 total at a 1.3 converstion rate.) Recently, they were on auction at Ebay and the 6 together didn't even fetch 150 dollars. That means to me that their renewal costs far outweighs their market appeal. On Sedo, I found about a 100 com.pt's for sale in total. The prices were between 3,500 and 599 Euro.

My question is twofold. Should I renew these fantastic looking domains? What do the experts at this forum consider their value to be today? in 5 years?

(And as an semi off topic speculation: What is the future of com.pt in general?)

Thanks for your time.

.US domains.US domains
As you probably know .pt is restricted while .com.pt is open. Same goes for the .fr TLD

Problem is, the Portugese don't look for .com.pt but expect .pt instead.
As for google.com.pt I assume it is merely a defensive registration.
If you are targetting the Portugese market I would say English keywords and .com.pt TLD are not a good mix. The keywords are still nice.
If your target market is different what is the point of .com.pt ?
If you have some good traffic or revenue keep them, or think you can develop why not keep them. But I would think twice before renewing or registering these in the first place.
Good luck.

Thanks. Your thoughts kind of confirm my speculations.

To answer your question, I bought a package of domains containing mostly the extionsions BE, ES and DE. There were 57 domains (26 BE, 23 ES, 2 DE and 6 com.pt). The only domains that I absolutely had to have in the whole group were the two DE domains. They are Real Estate related.

I renewed the BE and ES because they fit some of my other ideas (though I gave one away already). Now all that is left is the COM.PT.

The only domain that I am seriously considering is VIP.com.pt. VIP.de is owned by the television station RTL, though when asked, most Germans don't know what VIP means. Nevertheless, maybe, just maybe, VIP is something that is universal like OK. Maybe VIP has a meaning in Portugese too.

Anyhow, your vote is against renewal (they are not worth 68 Euro and have no long term value). Are there any other experts out there that would agree or disagree?

Following your idea that the Portugese use PT instead of COM.PT, I looked at the 6 names using PT. This is what I found:

Host.Pt has a website, but it is still in the construction phase.
Free.Pt has a typical parked website to make money off of clicks.
VIP.Pt has no website.
Work.Pt has no website.
Single.Pt has no website.
Car.Pt has no website.

These words don't even look valuable in the preferred the ccTLD PT.
