I sell t-shirts via my website and my online cafepress store based in the usa. I am from the UK and will be opening another online store and doing the printing/web-set up myself . This store will be themed and marketed to the UK and currency will be in UK sterling . Do I go for the MYTSHIRTSTORE.CO.UK or MYTSHIRTSTORE.COM

THANK-YOU

I agree .COM is more universal but I will be aiming at a very targeted market. The themes of the T-shirts will be directly aimed at current UK trends which will be changing weekly.
I understand that, as contradictory as this may sound, the British online marketplace is the fastest growing today. Yet they are still apprehensive about buying online especially from other country's thanks to the hysterical British media's reaction to online fraud.
Having said all that would you still go for the .com above the .co.uk ?

Thanks again

If you have the opportunity, IMHO I would go for both and host the site on the .co.uk with the .com being redirected.

Yes, I agree, ridirect one to the other. Preferably redirect the .COM to the .CO.UK since you are doing busines strictly in the UK. You made a smart choice in securing both extentions. Good luck.

Since I am in UK and I know how popular .co.uk are in UK
Moreover, it is for my local store..Without any doubt I would go for .co.uk

I would register both, but I would make the .co.uk the main one. The .com domain is definitely better internationally, but since you are only targeting people in the UK, go with the .co.uk domain if you have to choose.

Keep in mind that 2nd level .uk domains will be availale in the near future. So if you register .co.uk, soon you may want to register .uk also, with .com it is much more simpe..;)

Definetly the .co.uk if that's your intended market. As a UK resident, they are always the first port of call for me.

I'm not even sure you would need the .com...

.co.uk would always be more popular than .uk
imho :)

I think a .CO.UK will garner better trust and local relevancy with a paranoid public you describe than .CON. At the end of the day, when you DEVELOP a site, any meaningful extension is good since you get picked up by search engines and other promotional methods.

But if you were plain lazy and rather do nothing for your name and sit back and get traffic like manna from heaven, then pay for .COM. You are gonna need it.

Of course not, it won't hurt to take all extensions. It will hurt however, if there is a grass smoking cybersquatter holding the name hostage for $$$xxx, xxxx for a lousy jaorpuroeurlanvse.com.

You'ld be surprised how many cybersquatters there are, I won't be surprised if ovr 95% of all current namespace is cybersquatted in one form or another - the worst being those on drugs who can only see, multiple zeros in their fantasy states for their 2nd-3rd tier non-descript names.
