.Com seems to be the top extention in the US. Is this true in other countries as well? If I wanted to register a domain, in a language other than English, which ext. would be best? (.Com or that countries ext.) Thanks for all your help and information.

.US domains.US domains
I think .com would still be better. I live in Pakistan and I like websites with .com extension more, rather than with the extension of .com.pk

However, the multi-national companies have good opportunity to launch their website for each country. like Telenor has international website http://www.telenor.com and for Pakistan, they have http://www.telenor.com.pk

I tend to stick with the .com extensions, however if the domain in question is specific to a certain country, obviously the latter would be the better choice (Atleast IMO.)

If they are both available - Get Both if it is for development ...

Otherwise I'd go for the .com :)

.com is king, hands down. However, there is more availability in the ccTLD's.

In some countries, the country code domain is seemingly used within the country as commonly as dot com. Japan (.JP) and Germany (.DE) come to mind. I'm sure other NamePros members will also confirm the popularity of .co.uk and .nl in their respective countries.

Here's an outdated list of how many domains were reigstered in each extension. It can give an idea.

It seems the trend is advanced countries don't rely on .COM.
