What are your opinions of the .tv ext in general?

My opinion is just that it is overrated, and not a popular usage. When you see a television program, and if they have a .tv ext for the website, you are going to remember the name of the program, and type in example.com not example.tv

I just feel that the ext is near useless, as for the memory purpose goes. If you want a shorter ext then just use a .bb, .cc, or .us

I agree 100% that the TLD is very overrated. I do not foresee it being the next big thing in the coming year

The most overrated TLD by far is .mobi at this point. The .tv extension will be a big hit considering Demand Media is pumping heavy dollars into the extension getting off the ground.

The .tv extension unlike many others will be about development. It will be nice to see compared to all the other bs that is the norm.

Agreed. Well, for me dot tv name brings a new dimension for web development. I start to pick some nice .tv's for my future projects.

I feel it is overated, overpriced, and overall not very good.

I would not say the ext is overrated.
I actually see important TV groups (at least in European countries) that are rebranding themselves into .tv
It's probably the only ccTLD that has been successfully marketed as a generic TLD. IMO .tv is way stronger than alternate exts like .cc or .ws for example. These are just low-rate vanity TLDs if you ask me.

As an investment I prefer to stick to .com .co.uk .de etc - the more established TLDs :gl:
So .tv is not my market niche but if it's accepted end users.
Unless you have the perfect name or the right end users .tv are more difficult to sell.
What I don't like with .tv is differential pricing - I would hate to see that happen in other TLDs.

Do you know anything about the extension or any legitimate reasons to justify this opinion?

.tv

My personal opinion is that 2007 will be the best year the .tv extension has ever seen.

I agree with the pricing. If the names were cheaper the market would defintley grow.

travis,

if these are your estimates in the famous 2007 .TV price competition, i would say you were pretty "bullish" on the .TV extension for 2007?? :]

Premium: $123,000
Non-premium: $53,000

i think the .tv's will work well with tv-related sites (somewhat trivial). as time passes, i'm hoping to see more second level domains with matching top level domains.

you have to admit that fox.tv looks almost as secsi, or maybe even secsier than fox.com. and if not right now, in the future ;).

I agree completely. This also goes for .mobi

I think if the general public, in the U.S. anyway, is aware of any other extensions besides .com, .net &.org .... it's .TV.

I see more and more commercials all the time advertising a .tv domain.

With the convergence of the internet and video related media growing daily, I think it's one of the few ccTLDs that will actually become popular.

I just wish I had've sank a few $ into it when I had the chance. I predict we'll see some large sales of .tv in the next couple of years.

I'd have to fully disagree with that statement. Before domaining, about the only extensions I knew of were .com, .net, and .org. I wasn't even aware of what .us was, much less .TV.

Doh! I meant to put .com, .net, .org.., of course everyone knows those 3.

You'll have to excuse me.. I've had a few drinks... :p New Years and all. [_]D

But... I still believe it will be one of the most used extensions other than the big 3 mentioned above because of the advertising it's getting and also because, for the most part, the good .tv domains cost too much to just park. A lot of people that reg them have development plans.

Cheers

The extension has grown leaps & bounds from where it has been. You can't deny the fact of how the extension is gaining national exposure with companies advertising .tv's. I don't know what you are seeing but the majority is definitely not in your favor.
