.com or .co.uk

I am just about to start discussions with some uk companies and wonder which one I should try and sell them.Their business's are .co.uk so should I offer them that extension or should I try to flog them the .com?Advise please

If you have identical domains in both .com and .co.uk it might be wise to offer them both.

Yes I have both.May I ask though whats the fundamental difference for the company.I am new to domaining.:lol:

If UK companies are working locally or nationally they tend to prefer the .co.uk but if they are working internationally the .com is probably better.

Be aware that it is much easier to transfer a dot com name than a .co.uk (for which all sorts of paperwork and a fee was involved) so if you are new to domaining I would stick with the dot com names for the time being.

I think Nominet brought in a paperless online transfer system last year to replace the old, prohibitive paper system. Not 100% on that mind you.

Yes, you can do it online now. You should have got an email from Nominet when you bought your first .co.uk with a password. Head over to their site, login and they have pretty good instructions.

Personally I'd offer them both. I'm in the UK and design Wordpress sites for clients. If they ask I always tell them to get both .com and .co.uk. Use one as the primary and redirect the other. People are forgetful and might type .com when you are a .co.uk and vice versa
