Hi guys,

I just recently bought my first domain and i hope you guys here can help me in determining its value.

- i bought this domain because it can be used in two niches, gambling/betting niche and sleeping equipment niche, it can also be used for a college blog or magazine site or even an adult site.
- prior to purchasing, i searched for the cpc and avg search/ month which is $27-29/click and 1,300 avg exact searches per month
- i have no idea what the value of this domain is but if i ciuld guess it could be on the mid to high $x,xxx range or even on the $xx,xxx range.
- the domain has 14 characters and the words used are english dictionary words
- it was formerly developed as a college point spreads site but it is a low quality site in my opinion
- i kinda don't know how to determine keyword competition but if it is the same as ad competition in google keyword planner then it is low
- PointSpreads.com sold last year for $12,877, PointSpreads.net sold for $420 in 2008 and PointSpreads.us sold for $590 in 2007
- domain is 11 years and 4 months old.

PointSpread makes sense any every term. In financial industry Spread is calculated to buy or sell stocks and hence term Point Spread. But college Spread really doesnt make much sense.
The actual search term is College Point Spread. This term is used in sports and betting.
I doubt it has much value.

I am really afraid the points mentioned realy doesnt affect the price.

You need to pitch it hard if you want a sale.

An enduser, if you find one, would pay you low $XXX-mid $XXX.

Firstly, not sure why you say the domain is "11 years and 4 months old" as the Whois database shows the domain was only registered on 8th April 2014. So it's 3 days old. I suspect you picked it up on the Drop which might explain the confusion.

In terms of value I have to agree with yogiDomain and I think the enduser valuation from yogiDomain is generous.

All the points you raised as to why YOU think the domain has value have some merit but just because you think the niches you mention would be suitable, you have to ask yourself are there any other better domain names that companies from those niches could purchase.

And although the keyword gets searched 1,300/month and shows a very high PPC, did you actually see any adverts showing in the Google results page? Although I am UK based I can see the US search results and no companies are paying for those keywords. Plus, I'm not sure if gambling adverts are allowed in the US. But either way although the Keyword Planner shows a very high PPC, unless there are companies showing in the Ads then that metric is pretty much worthless as part of a valuation.

I suspect the previous purchaser of this domain thought they had a decent domain too, after seeing the exact match and PPC, but I guess that's why it was dropped. Hint, hint!

Also, your point about PointSpreads.com should have shown you why that domain has more value, as was also mentioned by yogiDomain.

For example a number of other extensions are already taken for PointSpreads e.g. .org, .info, .co, .co.uk and the .net is for sale at $1,799.

(And Point Spreads is a 'betting' related term which is a very high value niche, which would also suggest the reason for it's $xx,xxx selling price.)

But your CollegeSpreads.com is the only extension taken for that keyword, which would also suggest your keyword isn't in demand and as such would push this domain into the brandable category.

And waiting for an end user to come to you for a brandable domain is going to take a lot of patience on your behalf.

Good points raised by paddypaul.

I don't get how it could be $27 per click AND be a low competition keyword phrase...
something doesn't smell right.
