Hello,

I have still been very busy with college applications and have not been around much so don't expect moch domaining outta me until a month or so from now, but I want to take a survey.

Based on pristige alone, which college do you guys consider to be "better" (ie. more prestigious).

Thanks in advance for voting and if you could include a little tidbit on why you think so and also where you live (location can sometimes bias this) its be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
-Ambrose

Edit, just to clarify, looking at the strength of these school for undergraduate (for me Biomedical engineering nd premedicne but you can evaluate for overall)
Thanks!

In general, Northwestern seems to have a better rep for undergrad, Washington has a great law school though. Both are about the same size, both are expensive as all get out and both are great schools... however if I had to choose one I would pick Northwestern... primarily for the intangibles - i.e. better locale (st louis isn't the nicest city in the world) and *ahem, a more favorable female/male ratio at northwestern. Always nice to be outnumbered.

Oh yeah, per your request, I live in NC but went to college (kenyon) in Ohio.

Out of your two options, Northwestern is better known.

Didn't apply, was not to impressed after my visit.

Seems like everyone knowsn Northwestern better even though US News ranks Wash U higher (for whatever that's worth)

Take rankings with a grain of salt. You will get a good education at nearly any college or university in the USA. It is true certain colleges/universities have better profs, smaller class sizes, better library, etc. However, the effort you put in will directly correlate to what you get out. Go to a place that you know you can call home for the next 4 years and you'll be happy.

I had a chance to explore a little bit to do with Washington U. in St. Louis - they sent me a lot of materials when I was looking for a college. Seems like a good school in many regards but I'd vote NW to be the more prestigious of the two.

I wouldn't say take the rankings with a grain of salt, but go somewhere that you feel comfortable being.

I went on a trip this last week, and the one thing that I kept hearing was to find the school that is right for you, prestige aside. Most schools upto a certain tier are easily the equals of the other on their respective tier. Find a place that you can see yourself living for four years.

You can always check out www.Collegeboard.com or get a Fiske guide to help you along the way.

NW is more well known and respected it. I would really look at class sizes, how the students act, teachers and things along that line. You don't want to regret your decision as soon as you get there.

I've been finalizing my plans for college next year also. I decided to go to the local community college(10 min from my house) for my first year. Then I'll switch to my dream school.
