Affordable Multiple Websites?
My long term objective has always been site development. Unfortunately, left to my own devices, development is not moving along as quickly as I would like. It would be great if somehow, we could get assistance in bringing full service, multiple website CMS solutions to the domain market place. In the absence of workable industry sponsored enterprise solutions, I feel like each domainer must either reinvent the wheel or join a mass market monetizing system. Affordable, full service web development for domainers who must publish hundreds of sites just doesn’t seem to be an option.
With the kind of money I'm spending on renewals, it might make sense to let more expiring domains sell (or drop) in order to redirect $500 a month for site development costs. I realize that $500 is nowhere near enough money to hire a Webmaster for the scope of the work being contemplated, but if there are nine other domainers that are having a similar experience who could also allocate $500/month, this would create a $5,000 monthly budget to develop a custom, template based CMS development platform. If a $500/month commitment by ten domainers would support the level of enterprise website development necessary to increase the likelihood of success over the long haul, this could be a good opportunity for everybody. Or provided that it could be properly managed, 50 domainers at $100/month would be more affordable and and allow for greater participation. Better yet, it seems to me this industry has grown large enough that a major player could offer affordable, fee based, full service support for domainers interested in taking this next step. After talking to providers who indicate that I can launch 300 sites at approximately three to five hundred dollars per site, I thought it was time to take a new look at the problem from a different vantage point.
I’m convinced that custom designed, content rich websites have the potential to return benefits far in excess of anything we might see from the latest generation of parked page monetizing systems. In addition, by engaging the services of a talented Webmaster together with the right CMS package, domain owners can begin to spend the bulk of their time developing niche concepts, content and promotions for their websites. Through a combination of PPC, affiliate programs, drop ship programs, banner ads, etc. the ability exists to launch as many revenue centers as there are domain names to develop.
For major auction events, how much additional bidding interest would be attracted by offering content rich, fully functioning websites that are revenue generating instead of a domain name with the promise of potential only after meaningful site development has taken place.
Ultimately, I think this industry may need to consider implementing value-enhancing strategies to attract serious end user interest and to maximize auction potential. If auction price points are going to maintain the kind of levels we’ve seen over the past few years, it may take more than just a domain name and a parked page to get the job done in the future. If that is true, domainers who are fully committed to a development plan would be well ahead of the curve. I wouldn’t be surprised if full-featured web sites are one day the rule and not the exception for inclusion in major domain auction events. Bottom line, websites can do an incredible job of selling the domain sizzle, even if the Buyer is ultimately going to be ordering something other than steak.
I’ve spent dozens and dozens of hours confirming the fact that I am not an HTML programmer. That doesn’t mean a website can’t incorporate my ideas and concepts, it just means that my strength does not lie in physically executing the seemingly endless number of tasks (not to mention the learning curve) necessary to launch and maintain hundreds of well organized, content rich sites.
To explore further, PM me with your specific development expectations and a monthly price point that would make it work.
