Most of the names I check at GoDaddy are "taken" already...how do I go into "auction" for the popular names?

Do you think some of the names marked as "taken" will be released then?

I dont think so!! if they are taken, they are taken but alot of premiums are expected to hit auction block with multiple pre-order applications.

I suggest you to pre-order your "WANTED" names so that atleast you have a chance to participate in the auction, and if you are the only applicant you will get it right there and then without the domain hitting the auction block.

So start pre-ordering now!

some of the really good generic domains like cars.co, casino.co, poker.co, sex.co, loan.co, mortgage.co, hotels.co, hotel.co..... are all taken already and will not be available in the landrush.

Ok, I went ahead and pre-registered another 30 or so .CO domains.
Not crazy competitive keywords, but good ones that will definitely be worth the reg fee :imho:
...
And things do seem to be really heating up in the .CO domain world!
The e.CO Sedo auction...and now Twitter taking no_url_shorteners! :)
I know there is doubters out there, and I do warrant the doubt myself...but up to now, NO TLD that tried to compete with .COM (.ws, .biz, .net, .cm ,.cc, etc.) really made any sense :imho:
...
.CO surely does have the potential to stand its ground with the almighty .COM! :)

I'm placing them at GoDaddy...I know they have their problems, but its rather convenient and they do state a FULL refund will be made if they are unable to acquire the name for you.

I figure I won't get all of 'em and receive the refund in a couple weeks. :)
...
Now tell me which company, official acronym CO, won't want to have a .CO domain...maybe even instead of .COM!? :P

at end of the day a .co $500-1000 investment is not high risk. Their will be a buyer or two, even if its a bust. So its very important to sell your domains if you get offers! Cause if it dies out like .mobi did, you will loose a good chunk of profit. I could have made $$$$ in profit with .mobi, but had this big vision for the extension, instead now sitting on them and no one wants to buy them for $1!

.mobi is an artificial extension, while .co is the ccTLD for Columbia, just like .me is the ccTLD for Montenegro. Both already have a natural (local) market.
As long as you have the right (Spanish) keywords, .co names should be worth something, even with zero typo traffic. It's not the same kind of risk in my eyes.

.CO & .MOBI are two different animals.

Your comparing the REAL abbreviation of the word "Commerce" "Company" "Corporation" with a TYPO of the word "Mobile".

.MOBI is a 4 latter domain name, just like .NAME and .INFO. They are failure because they are long extensions.

Also, new mobile devices like the iPhone doesn't need such a thing.

There are longer extensions around, that do well.
.co.uk
.com.br
.com.mx
.com.au
.co.nz
.co.za
...

The problem is not length but whether the TLD is relevant
;)

tld's work on few facts, one is relevancy & second is region. Both go hand in hand IMHO..

I, on the contrary, think that some companies might really want these. :)

waste of money

You wouldn't want WEB.CO, for instance? :)

.CO IS ABSOLUTELY RELEVANT!...has actual meaning...AND can break the region barrier...as people all over the world are already used to typing ".CO" as part of either .co.uk, .co.in, etc.! :)
...
Guys, we're NOT talking about .WS, .CC, or even .ME here! :P

LLL.co and NNN.co will soon be all taken, if not during the landrush, but for sure at the first day of go live.
