It might be the average of the handful that sell, on major venues, to mainly end users.

But there is no shortage of high quality LLL.co on forums and auction venues than can still be had under $100 easily.

Brad

That sounds more right. There are still 12 at least that can be hand regged per the available domains forum.

Just sitting here watching Start-ups: Silicon Valley.

A girl is starting her own business and wants advice from her billionaire friend. His first words...you have to own the .COM ;)

---------- Post added at 07:23 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:14 AM ----------

In another segment, a guy wants $500,000 funding from an investor. He pitches his idea and the investor asks...do you own the .com? The investor winces in pain as the guy says no but I have .it

I wonder why these wildly successful people even bring up .com with all of today's other options :p

I need to resample the zone, perhaps I'll have something by tomorrow. But I think the figure must be right and indicates there is still growth.

But of course, that figure in itself doesn't tell much about the level of development for example.
But a quick glance at the top NS is more telling in this regard.

My latest count

That would put Godaddy's share of the market at around 40% or so. That would give it a similar profile to .mobi. I'm tempted to run a .co web survey just to see what is happening in the .co ccTLD. I don't consider the web usage stats that COInternet publishes to be a competent and accurate analysis of web usage in the ccTLD. By incorrectly classifying the Godaddy PPC landing page for undeveloped domains as a generic redirect, it massively understates the amount of PPC parking. The US concentration, especially on Godaddy, is worrying and the ccTLd might be on the way to becoming a Bubble Zone where most of the growth is based on speculation and more new registrations go up for sale or PPC rather than for development or brand protection. Most new TLDs have some element of speculation but it is not a reliable long term growth strategy. There has to be some element of wider development.

I agree fully, which is why I'd like to see less extensions till we see more development on the ones already there.

In a story just out by ABCNews/Univision entitled โ€œThe Americas: 13 to Watch in 2013โ€ sitting among people and topics like the President of Mexico Enrique Peรฑa Nieto, Hugo Chavez and President Barack Obama, the .CO domain name registry came on at number 11 on the list:

โ€œThis year we saw some major changes in the Americas in regards to business, technology and politics. 2013 should be all the more interesting. Here are thirteen people and things to keep an eye on this year.โ€

11. .CO: This Colombian start-up is out to break the .com monopoly of domain names. .CO (pronounced โ€œdot coโ€) is positioning itself as the hip domain option for startups and creatives.
