as I had nothing better to do, I sent an email to CNN about that in hopes they will fix that since domainers and cyber-squatters are 2 different things.

as defined:

Domaining is the business of buying, selling, developing and monetizing Internet domain names. Such domain name portfolios often include cleverly chosen and highly marketable generic domain names, or domains whose registrations had lapsed yet still retain reasonable traffic.

...

Cybersquatting, according to the United States federal law known as the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, is registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad-faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else.

^ both from Wiki.

Wonderful.
Great job, CNN.

If all domainers are "cyber-squatters"... would that make:

Anyone selling real estate a "property-squatter"?
Anyone selling laptops a "computer-squatter"?

This news made me want to just sit at home all night, but instead the family was a little hungry so we all piled into the new car we bought last week at the "auto-squatter" and headed to town. Not wanting to cook at home, I drove right past the "food-squatter" and decided to pay perfectly good money to the local "taco-squatter". We all enjoyed the meal and followed it up with hot fudge sundaes from the "frozen-dairy-squatter".

This makes me want to start a new business... pay-per-use restrooms. Then I could officially list my profession as "squatter-squatter".

cnn needs to get an expert to talk about this - not some random (kevin voigt) trying to make a splash in the news world.

Thing is most "news" is equally poorly researched - we just don't have the prior knowledge to be able to tell.

Maybe 15 years ago I read somewhere (seemingly a reputable source) that a well known autobiography was a fake. Not that it personally made any difference in my life, but I accepted that "information", remembering it whenever the subject came up, until I learned this week that the book was certainly authentic in the minds of nearly every researcher.

Anybody with a keyboard can call himself a journalist, CNN has to keep up with Fox, you know.

Heh, I replied back to CNN that referring to domainers as cyber squatters is similar to calling Peyton Manning a pitcher.

Nice one, CNN. What's next, they'll start ignoring presidential candidates until the debate is 40% of the way over? Oh, wait...

CNN isn't reliable anymore, in my opinion -- the same goes with FOX. They're certainly not helping the image of the average domainer. Anyone outside of the industry really hates what I do. :td: CNN isn't helping our cause.

If they want to ask a neutral source check with Google. I'm sure they know the difference as they don't do business with Cyber-Squatters, but they would be in big trouble if they didn't do business with Domainers.

How about the unintentional reference to GoDaddy's reseller program:
