What do you think about "clever names" such as del.icio.us, click.it, find.me and so on. Do they sell? At least in the DNJournal sales charts and in NameBio, I don't see many (if any) of these?

P.S.: Sorry, if this question is asked before. I tried searching for "clever names", but to no avail.

I think you mean 'domain hacks'. Here is a thread on it (or do a search for domain hacks here at NPs)

Also RJ talked about this article about them. Here is the link

Thank you very much! I really had this in mind. I am a newbie and it seems I don't even know the terminology :red:

IMO these names are not so clever :red:

The bad thing is users are not as clever as you may be!

i stay away from domain hacks..I mean they look cool and have some appeal depending on the name, but overall hard to find end users for these sorts of domains unless it's a really good hack

these are good if they include membership, script, traffic, income

their not as memorable as they come off. it's really easy to remember short dot-com domains, but with hacks you have to remember where the three dots (in relation to the spelling of the word) ends

i had a hard time with del.icio.us lol

They would be easier to sell if a site was already built around them.

The real clever names are pure generics (or maybe unhacked, appropriate and memorable brandables).

To this day I still have problems remembering where the dots go for that site lol.

Yes, names like Find.it or Buy.it etc are much better/easier to remember.

:)
