The correct spelling is LEIDEN. I live there.

But Leyden.nl does indeed resolve to this same site. I think that often English speaking people spell it "Leyden" and the townsfathers know this and therefore use that spelling as well.

Actually Leiden is the widely used name, however Leyden is not a typographical error. As you mention it is also called Leyden in English but also in archaic Dutch. I also live in Leiden by the way...

It is also a town in New York USA
