Am I the only one considering the domain being Cia actually reduces the domain value?

I considered that, but than thought that the domain being cia, is what makes it more valuable than just another CVV.com.

How many countries have a CIA? How many central intelligence agencies are there?

How many can own CIA.com? Essentially one. It is not owned by any nation. Whereas CIA.gov is believed to be used, and owned by the USA. If .COM is king, what is .gov? I think there are many reasons, besides a defensive government reg, that bring value to this domain.

Do you think having matching initials of a known government initials reduces a domains value? Can you compare CIA.com to NSA.com or FBI.com?

I think it was @Ali that said something along the lines of -- Can you put a price on Freedom? Well Freedom.com just sold for $2 million. -- Granted Freedom might have had a more identificable primed enduser, but one would imagine a company using CIA as initials would be interested in purchasing CIA.com especially considering how commonly known that acronym is.

It's a very nice LLL.com. But is it better than cii.com or cib.com?

I have a hard time figuring out why someone would pay millions for it. A U.S. government agency certainly wouldn't.

By the way, you must be missing a lot of offers since the contact email address listed on the landing page uses a domain that is not registered:

I think it is, by far, and without question.

I have a hard time figuring out why someone would pay millions for it. A U.S. government agency certainly wouldn't.

Why? ...Is this because you don't think the US government is authorized to spend funds on such, or because you think they have no interest in acquiring it at a 7-figure price?

By the way, you must be missing a lot of offers since the contact email address listed on the landing page uses a domain that is not registered:

Awesome attention to detail!!!

I was super confused at one point as to how I had copied redcagroup.com, and why it wasn't registered. I assumed it was user error on my part, but ha, it was my attention to detail that was wrong.

I think there are better and safer domains at that price range.

For a reseller or enduser?

If enduser -- then I think that would vary on the enduser's domain need. ie What categories could a domain like CIA.com be a strong suit for? A security or research group? A news company? Imagine seeing a known national news organization quote, according to CIA.com, etc...

I have not done brokerage business with starfire holdings, nor am I affiliated with them. I am recommending them because I am of the opinion @Ali and co are hard workers, and they may have some helpful industry contacts. I have not done business with Evergreen.com, nor am I affiliated with them. I am recommending them because @strong is affiliated with NameBio (source of previous sales screenshot), and they may also have some helpful industry contacts. There are many decent brokers to chose from, and it can get shark like. Be weary, and understand some industry awards have about as much meaning as the worlds best coffee sign from the movie elf. Trust your instinct.

Other than the obvious cia could be used for a multitude of things but...

CIA Circumcision Information Australia

That one just about made me fall off my chair :hurting:

Yeah, people quoting that everyone wants to own it. . . I wouldn't go near it with a wooden spoon.

Don't mess with the cia. Don't get in their crosshairs.

I know it's not TM, but owning such a significant kind of specific property that garners that much of their public image is something that would make me feel uncomfortable.

Grilled. Thanks for your comments.

That’s why I’m here. Trying to get feedback. Especially now with this crypto currency domain thing going on.

Can you elaborate further why the owner of cia.Com came on NP just because of cryptocurrency domains?

I think it is, by far, and without question.

I think it would be great for an apparel company or something like that. Or a Chinese company (China International something).

Why? ...Is this because you don't think the US government is authorized to spend funds on such, or because you think they have no interest in acquiring it at a 7-figure price?

Both. It would cause a public outrage if they did, I think. Besides, .gov and .org are what they use.

Why would the government spend a dime on a .com when this was basically free...

https://www.cia.gov/index.html

It’s a cool domain but I think the real value is not near 7 figures. Maybe low 6 imo.

You would know more about LLL.com, and 6/7 figure domains than me, so I'll take your word for it.

I'm just saying, it's a cool domain. And for reasons not to be mentioned, there are several reasons why the government would spend a dime for this domain.

They wouldn’t spend anything to acquire the .com. FBI.com is another example of something that seems like a slam dunk until you think it thru... https://www.fbi.gov/

I do not know the history of the US government acquiring domains. NSA.com is another one that falls under the same umbrella. Really not sure if they hold any .com domains TBH.

I just think in the .com era, if the US government has the ability, and authorization to acquire such a domain, there are reasons such an entity could justify such a purchase. Though, I am by no means qualified to say what is and, what isn't a justifiable purchase.
