I am planning on developing www.Christmasshopping.ca before the shopping rush begins in October. Should I go for selling advertizing, use PPC or affiliate commissions? Overture searches are huge and so are returns on Google/Yahoo.

PPClick, sure, but you'll have to be careful on content and competing sites advertising and stealing your visitors.
PPConversion might be good if your visitors' demographics are upper/middle/uppermiddle class likely to buy the big gifts.
