I still have a lot of names I'm sitting on, but I haven't been that active in domaining recently. As of a month or two ago, I started getting daily inquiries and outright offers in the ~$300 range on my LLLL.com names that have bad letters in them. All of these offers are from Chinese "buyers". I also noticed on the forum that LLLL.com's are going for higher than when I last was buying. Is there another rush going on, or are these emails part of the latest scam, whatever it may be?

I assume this has been talked about, but I couldn't find anything when I searched.

Thanks

Yes, receiving these daily, mostly because of the number of llll that I have.

I noticed they increased their offers from a few months back which at the time was $200-$250... now they are in the $300- $400 range. Sometimes the USD offer is accompanied with a slightly discounted price in RMB (rounded down).

Hello,

Personally, I would be tempted to test their credibility. After negotiating the price, I would ask them to pay via PayPal and if they not agree, suggest a reliable escrow service, such as Escrow.com. Provided that you are willing to sell, of course.

Another way is to start a thread in the appraisal section of this forum.

Ps. I agree that someone's bad letter can be another person's good ones.

This is exactly what I'm seeing. Previously, I would get "is this for sale". I'd tell them to make an offer and it was $190-250. These were all from accounts on free chinese email services and were often written mostly in Chinese and/or pretty poor english. Now I'm getting cleaner written emails from someone saying they're a domainer and offering $300 straight up and then an RMB amount.

I will do that. I do agree that a "bad letter" may be a good letter in another language (x especially in Chinese). I'm just saying, in a general sense, these letters are the reason why I was able to pick these names up for $10 three years ago, so I'm curious as to why magically a huge group of Chinese domainers want to pay 30x that as of two months ago - out of nowhere.

Best of luck!

I get the similar e-mails for NNNNN domains. They send an offer but won't reply to any of the e-mails. Mark them as spam and send them straight to junk.

I actually collect email database of these spammers. Everytime I'm put domain for sale either through private offer or push it to the auction, I sent out email to all these friendly folks, because I know this information is very important for them :)

I've replied to a few and they all reply back. Sometimes I tell them to make an offer, and sometimes I send a price and they reply. Today, I got one:

Them: hey is your name llll.com for sale?
Me: $800
Them: NO! $200

The going rate seems to be about $300 though from some of the other offers I've received.

If you have llll.com do not contain aeiouv, PM me, $300 each.

Now it makes more sense. I have a handful of LLLL.com's, but I'm only getting these offers on ones with no aeiouv. Pinyin?

Must not be spam afterall. Chinese LLLL(-aeiouv).com landrush is on.

So this must be legit. I went to ebay and bid on LLLL.com without aeiouv and every auction got sniped right at the end, no matter how high my max bid was. Auctions would be at $60 and my max would be $150 or more and at the last second, someone would snipe it and win for just over $150. Interesting.

If someone won it for $150 I would like to see it. The bottom price on these names is $350-400 right now.

Get emails daily from Chinese buyers, some are written in Chinese, very few are replying to the offers, especially for domains costing more than $500

I get an email daily as such from the same person, first it was on my 4L then 5N and now 6N, I don't think he checks his mails, he just keep on spamming.
