available Chinese City-LL.com Domains: An IP based analysis

In this thread, I will compare Chinese City-LL.com and CityLL.com based on the IP diversity.

Following settings are considered for the test:

• City: BJ, SH, SZ, GZ
• Combos:
  • LL: 20 x 20 = 400
  • City: 4
  • Total combo: 1600

Results for CityLL.com

• # of unique Full IPs: 646
• # of unique C-class IPs: 500

Results for City-LL.com

• # of unique Full IPs: 928
• # of unique C-class IPs: 741
• # of available domains: 69

What is really interesting here is that the number of established sites is way more than non-hyphen names even though there are still available City-LL.com pattern names. My first finding is, end-users prefer hyphen names because of high-cost LLLL.coms.

It seems that hyphen is not that much bad for Chinese end-users. Do you see something else which might be useful for domainers here?

Before reading this post I registered Chinese geo dn's LLLNN.coms and LLLLNN.coms and LLLLNNN.coms based on this post did I. Make a mistake if Chinese end users will simply reg domains with hyphens? Here's some of mine.

Hkcn888.com
888cn.com
Other combinations are taken.

Does that mean something.
Seems most of these combos are taken by Chinese people don't know if they are endusers or domainers. Or alibaba

Also,Perhaps you can give numbers on how many permutations there are for 7N.coms and even 8N.coms. with only 8's and 9's and maybe 0's? I'm sure that would be considered useful info to most. I have a couple of those myself.

Combine and Chinese city abbreviation or pinyin acronym then add cn in front or back of it plus try adding 88/888/999/99

8 is lucky
9 means forever

You won't find much all taken by Chinese registrants

No no hyphen I personally see no value as investment. If you are buying for investment for resale. Hyphenated dn's would be in the lower end of tje spectrum if from what you are saying only the "little guy" who can't afford to buy a premium domain instead looks for the cheaper hyphenated domains.

Your choice want to market go the Donald Trumps of the world? Or the guy selling fish bait online?lol remember all hand regged dotcoms cost the same so better reg non-hyphens. Its a better bet I think so any numbers yet on my request earlier? I'd really appreciate it

True. but to the chinese? better than hyphens. Eastern Cultures are oddballs but pretty predictable when it comes to tastes. They assume the "best" is dotcoms. Too much explaining to tell their visitors "hey don't forget the hyphen" plus what if they forget? they they will end up with your competitors website? free traffic for them? so essentially hyphenated domains are a form of cybersquatting but in the worst possible way for the registrant of such domains.

your website say is HongKong-China.com if your visitors forget the hyphen then you just lost your traffic to HongKongChina.com.

Worst part? I seriously doubt HongKongChina.com would ever lose traffic to HongKong-China.com. Do you agree? too much risk for being a cheapskate right?

no offense but have you already registered a few hyphenated domains prior to posting this thread? are you having "buyers remorse"?

as for my domains being too long. Huge chinese versions of Godaddy and Sedo and registering 5L and 6L .coms. Go ahead try an easy and logical combination of letters for Geo China domains. I can guarantee you most if not all are taken by some chinese company or chinese domain investors.

Should we assume they are all stupid and have no clue what they are doing? or perhaps they know something we in the west don't? And that is that 5L.com's are slowly drying up and the next cheap affordable market to invest is 6L.com's. It's just the natural progression of things. First it was 1L,then 2L, then 3L, then 4L and 5L and finally 6L. and there is nothing indicating that this scenario will ever stop.
