Hey guys.
Until today i've always used Name.com for new registrations because with its prices ($5.99 .COM and $5.89 .NET) and its good services it was the cheapest registrar with FREE Private Whois.

Now with $8.99 for .COM and .NET it isn't cheap at all and since i should register some domains, $2 difference would become important.

What Registrar has cheaper prices for .com and .net and has free private whois?

For example i see Fabulous with good prices but... doesn't it support private whois?

Let me know, guys ;) I'm sure your replies will be really helpful not only for me.

The only registrar that comes to mind right now, on free private whois, is NameCheap. But you'll be paying a similar price.

You may be able to use GoDaddy w/a coupon to get the domain + private whois cheap.

As far as Fabulous is concerned, I don't see any options for private whois. :|

Sometimes there are special offers like register a domain and get free privacy whois that is the only way I know of getting free privacy registration.

GoDaddy asks too much for the private whois, even if i spend $6.99 with coupon, i need to pay also $6,50 for private...
Fabulous has good prices and on another thread it is described as one of the best registrar (secure and affidable) but i still can't find any private whois option (free or not).

As i've specified, Name.com is getting too expensive for my resources, at least for the moment...

There is no one cheaper then name.com, they are already losing money at the 6.99 price point. You might be able to find some doing a special offer or maybe some dodgy registrar which I wouldnt trust who offer it for less.

Get a PO Box and do it that way. Worth the investment if you have a lot of domains on which you want privacy.

I've been thinking about it too.

By the way, Name.com looks to be good until they keep the coupon for .coms.
But for .nets?
I think it's a pity Fabulous doesn't support Private Whois at all...

Name.com has a coupon code for new .com registrations for $6.99 = TLHF99

That is pretty much the best deal with private whois for a .com.

Thank you,
Sam

Coming across a retail registrar that's provisioning Domains at primitive ($6.99) rates are a little impossible post the price hike. You may just find a provider (if you are lucky) provisioning domains at a low price but charge for the privacy which again means falling back to square one. I would suggest answerable.com..decent pricing $8.49 on renewals and transfers..plus free privacy protect..cant ask for too much so find them just right

If $2 is going to make that much of a difference, why bother registering names? You are not going to find a reputable registrar with free privacy for under $6. Those days are over outside of a super sale.

Well i'm not going to look for registration with private whois under $6. I'm looking for around $6.99-7.99. I was used to Name.com with $5.99/5.89 ....
Name.com has a coupon for $6.99 .com new registration, but if i need .net?
Well, anyway, thank you for your help. I was sure there weren't cheaper registrar, but with your replies i had confirmation about that.

If u r looking for a cheap registrar,
I suggest 1and1.com..It cost you $6.99 for .com, .net, .org, .info, .name registration with free private WHOIS.

1and1.com is a good registrar and it porvides good services but there is a defect i.e. there is no account push service. you have to pay the reg fee for changing the account.

OR
New:
You can try netfirms.com..
They provide domain registration at $6.99 with private WHOIS.
I think they are the cheapest upto today!
Lot of services and good customer support.

Regards!

Bingo!! Why a 'domainer', one who buys and sells domains, would want to keep their contact info private has always been baffling to me! Let alone to then 'depend' on someone else to pass on any inquiries to you! I've been contacted many times thru the whois, and made many sales. I use a PO box, initials, and a legit email to be contacted at. But 'whatever' for those that want to pay more per name every year to hide from potential buyers!!

IF you are looking for a permanent domain reg, 1and1.com is best!

Regards!

Exactly - my largest sales have been from when end users have contacted me through the whois. If they go to the effort of looking up the domain's details and then email you it is a sure sign that they are very interested - a piece of knowledge you can use in your favour!

ExclusiveIdentity (dot com) has $7.99 reg and free privacy...

I have the same problem. But I want to hide my data only for domains with projects that link to each other. There are some guess-works among SEO that Google as a registrar looks to whom domains belong and if you begin to link your own domains - these links will not be good for you :(

So I think Privacy may help with that. As to domains that are for sale I don't see any need to use privacy.

Directi will be the cheapest registrar with free privacy. ~7.5$ for .com. But you must find a good reseller.

Also consider Dynadot 7.75$ for .com + 1.84 for privacy = 9.59$ (Bulk pricing)
