does anyone know of a service/site that allows you as the webmaster to charge for uploading to your site? per video? per account?

i am looking into starting a business directory site and feel it would be much better served if i could charge a fee for each video that they upload. i would also like for the site to be searchable by geo or category... anyone know of such a service being offered? i've looked at all the main players, but can't find anything that fits.

tia, mike

May I make a comment.

Sorry, I'm only trying to help.

Just think if Google charged each site before they spidered them. Do you think that business would have gotten off the ground?

My suggestion is to give free upload and find a pay for performance way to monetize traffic, either pay per play, click, or lead.

We will be offering "Private Label" version of our business directory (under the brand ChannelLocal.tv to piggy back on DemandMedia's branding of ChannelMe.com), but right now we have two syndication partners and we want to get the service off the ground before taking on new partners. Our model is not pay per upload, but pay for performance.

well as much as i agree, i also think that there is a market for professional business 2 business or business 2 consumer sites where the business will pay to be included ... i'm not looking to create the next viral video craze site- i want a site that's well categorized and easily searched and potentially offering category/geo exclusivity to the businesses involved.

i look forward to seeing what you put together, but it doesn't sound like a fit (atleast for this idea).

We have one video directory up (ReceptionHalls.tv) testing Google and Yahoo SEO for a .TV domain vs a .COM domain in the same space. It is a test site.

We have a comprehensive strategy (beyond just videos) aimed at taking market share away from the large IYPs and meeting some of the vacuum created consolidation in the Yellow Pages space (YellowPages.com being purchased by BellSouth/SBC, Switchboard.com being purchased by Infospace, AOL outsourcing their IYP) and Lead Generation space (Leads.com buying Rennovation Experts).

Some businesses wil only do Pay Per Inclusion, but only if the site has significant consumer traffic.

Its a test site, we are in the process of overhauling and I've held off on putting the 80 or so virtual tours we have collected from our advertising base until we have the site I want and the ability for the advertisers to publish the videos directly (after a QA process).

or if you shoot/edit and store the video for them from which they can imbed on their sites or use in the link in advetisements

i do like the setup of you site ... it's very similar to my idea and i think there is a space for such sites

1 / and so you are aiming for a CPA type model with this I presume?

2/ "the ability for the advertisers to publish the videos directly (after a QA process)"

Are you building this in-house or using 3rd party? I want to do this too, but most solutions have been semi-c*** on that dimension.

1) Yes. I will support Pay Per Inclusion, but the core model is Pay Per Lead and Pay Per Click. We will offer Pay Per Inclusion advertising, because some small businesses don't have the marketing savy to handle Pay for Performance advertising since their Lead Management Capabilities are limited.

2) We are building this in-house. We are integrating COTS (Open Source Software) for certain features in our network, but the directory and video pieces are in-house developed.

I've run this model for the past six years at my prior business, pay for performance and self-publishing by small businesses. We had 10,000 small businesses using our platform.
