Changes at PayPal.. do you have to add a bank account now?

It seems that in order to receive money, a (US) bank account has to be added to paypal accounts now. Previously, there was an option to "Receive funds and add a bank account later". Now, this option is gone and instead you have to fill in a bank account before you can proceed to accept funds.

Has anyone encountered this or have anymore information on how best to accept funds without adding a bank account?

I've noticed just the same thing, I've emailed paypal about it, but haven't got any reply yet.

Hi Paddy,

It appears this is only a temporary technical error on paypal's side which should be back to normal pretty soon.

i received a payment may 12th, and my paypal account doesn't have a us bank account on file. it would be outrageous to require everyone to have a us bank account, imo!

Hope you're right Aaron. Its been a few days and its still the same.

Does anyone have any further insight here? I have lots of revenue that cannot be accepted at the moment... i'm sure many of you will be in the same position.

to my knowledge, you've always needed a bank account with paypal.

when i opened one up i remember it being a requirement, and I believe you need to be at least 18 years old (though my memory has failed me before)

how else would you add/remove funds from your paypal account? sure you can get a paypal debit card and pay a premium on withdrawals etc, but doesn't it just make sense to have a bank account linked there?
