I'm considering selling my cds.com domain name. I know it's a high value name but I'm not sure exactly what that value is or where the best place to sell it would be.

The name is a common acronym. I'm sure you can come up with several major companies off the top of your head that use that acronym. It's a word. I've had it for about 30 years or so. It was only the 3rd domain name in history to go through the federal court process. There is a Chinese company with a very similar name.

Thank you for the input. We already have a six figure offer on the table at the current time however so I'd say your estimate is low.

Reserve around $200K and try it at auction. A motivated buyer may want at $400K+ if you just put up for sale and wait it out for a while.

I think this comes down to time frame - if you have time and can also reach out to end users then i dont see why mid 6 figures isnt achievable.

Great domain that will sell well given time

You can't really do both. You either put it up for auction or you wait it out but an auction has a deadline, and usually not one in the distance.

That's more consistent with my expectations. Of course I'd rather have the price that gld.com brought this year. I think cds.com has more flexibility as there are some huge corporations with that acronym. For a long time we were getting contacts from cds.com.cn but I see that domain is currently listed for sale now. But cds.cn is still in use. Anyway, my point is that I think it's reasonable to expect it to be at the higher end of the estimates. At the higher end, it could be made available as we'd push our transition quickly to accommodate the sale.

Who told you that, domain speculators? You may wait for a whole life for $500k or any other insane amount of money you dream of, instead of living in fantasies appreciate such exceptional amount of money and spend it wisely.
I'm sure OP doesn't have another opportunity to have freaking six figs in his bank account just by a few clicks, he's just waiting because of his greediness, this will end badly (ask Lambo).

Well obviously they're not gonna up the offer in a year, they'll disappear and forget about it in a week. The point is that the value of this gem will increase. And idk if cds.com is really comparable to lambo.com, "cds" doesn't really mean anything to the general public. I dont think Jerry has anything to worry about.

Not that I don't appreciate being told that I'm greedy by someone who knows absolutely nothing about me, but let me ask you this. If houses in your neighborhood are selling for $250K and you're thinking about selling your house would you sell it for $50K? Why not? Because you're greedy? I mean, who wouldn't want $50k in their bank account just for signing their name on a couple of pieces of paper? Your argument makes _no_ sense and calling me greedy because I'd like to get a fair market price is just childish.

And another answer to your "why wait" question is that we're still making close to six figures a year from the domain by owning it. That domain is generating income in it's current use. To sell it for your low six figures quickly would be close to giving it away as opposed to holding it for another year. Again, you make no sense.

I'm not sure what you do for a living but I hope it doesn't involve working with figures or people. You don't seem to be very good at either of those things.

Nice domain, i think CD's (compact disc) is 20+ years long gone though, so not going to get big money linked to that, unless someone creates a business selling/renting CD's but how much money is involved in that in 2024? Not a lot! So no one is going to pay you big money for a domain linked to compact disc (end-user wise).

So what is the domain names end use? Quick Google search i can't really see anything, so to me its just another 3 letter domain name and like with all 3 letter domains you just hope 1) someone from China comes along with deep pockets who needs this domain at any cost 2) a company who calls themselves CDS comes along with deep pockets who needs this domain name at any cost 3) you hope something big comes along again like NFT/AGI/IOT/CBD/DVD that is abbreviated to CDS.

You are right that the compact disc market is about dead but it's a common acronym for a lot of businesses. I have a spreadsheet going of companies who have contacted me with an interest in buying. Granted most of them made crazy low offers just to see if they could win the lotto or something but there have been six figure offers as recently as last week.
