Hello, i am thinking about setting up a local registrar for my area and im wanting to know which is the best reseller for .com.au domains. The reseller account must be easy to use and customizeable and has the cheapest prices.

If anyone has any recommendations please post here.

Thanks

Morgan

@oyster: you're right in that the general trend is more trade / less restrictions, but there are some industries that will undoubtedly not be open and limits will exist no matter what (i.e., military).

yes, i do think that part of the reason for registration restriction is that .ca ultimately belong to canadians. thankfully cira / canadian government isn't broke to the point where they have to open its doors to foreign domainers.

@homebuyer: i like the beer analogy.

@roy: i've never thought about the .ca brand idea (until now). you're right though, and real businesses can establish their canadian presence if they're serious about it. higher registration fees + barriers of entry = more value to each .ca.

To miss_chiff: We are specialized in ccTLD's and we have lawyers and specialists checking all possibilities we can have and evaluating the risks we can run to. All customer registering a .ca with us is checked by CIRA, we registered many Domains during the last month and there was never a problem. Next to .ca we offer many other "restricted" ccTLD's, you can check the list of those on our page at http://www.alldomainregistrar.com/whmcs/domainchecker.php so I can say that we have a certain experience in handling those.
I can understand that certain countries have restrictions protecting their Domains but I also quite don't understand why those countries block other companies or Projects to get into any relation in this respective country. A controlling would make much more sense than not allowing Domain Registrations.

I can understand that registries

If you don't have a local Presence, we can provide one for you.

That quote is directly from your site!
.ca's are different from your other ccTLD's
and your "lawyers" should have told you that,
3rd party registrations are not allowed on .ca's PERIOD!
and becoming a certified .ca seller, won't help either!

If only it were that easy - I am a lawyer, therefore what I say is right. Every time I appear in court one lawyer wins, and the other one loses.

Hey Roy, thanks for weighing in.

Could you clarify what is legal and what's not? For eg. is the suggestion in this thread of a proxy reg legal?

Would be better to have some clarity on this.

I've asked CIRA three separate times to clarify that issue and they responded all three times with mealy-mouthed answers that did everything but answer the question!

mis_chiff though it appears did get a firm answer from them and the answer was not good for those looking to do it that way.

But all is not lost for non-Canadians wanting to use a .ca. Register as an LLC in Canada and off you go. It will cost money, but if you are using the domain to make money, it's all part of the cost of doing business!

and not only that, anyone who buys from
him will most likely loose their domains.
3rd party registrations are NOT ALLOWED (no matter WHO you are)
He is NOT a "Certified Seller" of .ca's either.

There is another thread going around about it.

He's not allowed to offer "The Presence Requirement" for .ca
he knows it, but seems oblivious to what he's doing!

Hi:

I would be willing to register domain names in my name and then legally contract to pay almost all revenue and sale proceeds to a third part (less a percentage fee).

Anyone think this would be legal? I would only do if strictly legal - this is just my hobby - I have a good job.

Thanks,

Danto

here is the info, unfortunately it's not legal!
www.cira.ca you can check under requirements,
and also under certified sellers.

It's one thing to register one for a friend or family member,
but there is no legal way of running a business to do it.

Registering for a .DE domain

I want to establish a presence in Germany in the moderate future and have a name in mind.

However the requirement is that the administrative contact must be living in Germany, which I am not at this time.

Does anyone know of a domain registrar that gives proxy service?

Thank you

I've had a .de at my GoDaddy reseller for a while without a problem, cost = $17.99 (currently the same price at GoDaddy themselves). They'll provide a proxy German admin contact:
About Your .DE Domain
To register a .DE domain name either the Registrant or the Admin contact must have a valid German address. If you cannot provide either, we will supply a Proxy Admin contact for you. However, your admin contact will continue to be included in our WhoIs.

Is that so? I wrote to Godaddy and they gave me one of their canned replies saying that I must add in an admin contact in germany. And avoid replying to my question about proxy services!

I found another place 'safenames.net' but they seem to add in a $150 admin charge to every domain registered. The cost for the $8.50 .de in godaddy changes to around $200 in safenames.

Eurodns and simply.com also provide trustee services but they are quite expensive....can't recall the specific number at this time but it is around $30 to $60 per year extra.

Thanks!

I have registered a .de domain hack with moniker. They use a german attorney's office for the admin-c address. I don't think I paid extra for it.
