What do you think? Both are similar kind of cctlds, promoted differently and quite well too.. For some names, .cc is regged, .tv aint. For some others .tv is regged & .cc aint...

TV is a more prime extension, although reg fees are higher and it has more of a focus, whereas .cc is more generic

.TV is definately the better-known of the two. However, .cc has its advantages - .TV implies some relationship to, well, TV. .cc is, like rocketfly said, generic. If it's for a site you plan on developing, then .cc and .tv can both work, otherwise, I'd go with .tv in more cases.

The .cc for sure! It's a much better alternative to the .com... whereas the .tv is almost too niche (most people think television) and also not a very good alternative to the .com IMHO.

Your poll is closed for some reason.

I just came back from a Europe (Germany/Austria) trip and saw a surprisingly high number of .cc domains being advertised while i didn't see a single .tv
This leads me to believe that the .cc has gained more acceptance due to being the extension that is usable for just about anything/generically, versus the .tv being really type cast and specific. Bottom line, i'd vote and go for a .cc before i'd take a .tv, unless the domain name requires a .tv to be used.

Really? I saw .cc back a while ago, but I haven't seen much about it lately. Perhaps I'm wrong... Maybe .cc is the way to go :P I still like .tv though.

.TV all the way. You will see why in 2007.

I currently do not own any .tv, but it seems that the people saying tv are large owners of tv domains. And the same for .cc. Although i like both, i do not see .tv going any where fast.

I used to think that .cc was better but have noticed that .tv is more popular. It does depend on the domain though.
e.g. CreditCard.CC is better than CreditCard.TV
WatchThis.TV is better than WatchThis.CC

Right, and i saw a post on here the other day about the prefix "you" hence youtube possibly being the next big thing. But it has to fit the ending. Hence, youdomain and youw/e does not work with one another. Same with .cc and .tv. However if you own creditcard in any extension its going to be valuable.

On what information are you basing that on?

I think, so far .cc has had more number of sales, But .tv had BIGGER sales, though less in number..

Namebio shows 56 sales at an avg of $799 for .cc, and 27 sales at an avg of $2052 for .tv.. interesting!!

.cc has no intuitive value and only has meaning to domainers with a vested interest in that ext. .cc is better? Whatever you have to tell yourself to go to sleep at night I guess you have to believe.

.tv has a universal meaning no matter what language you speak, now I would say if you had a name like socks socks.cc would probably be better than socks.tv because the intuitive nature of the ext would make someone think it was a show about socks. But overall I would take .tv by far and many I know who are not "domainers" know and understand .tv not one has ever heard of .cc. The .cc meanings like credit card or an alternativer to .com which really makes me wonder, Every ext is an alternative to .com. Are only justifications in the Domainer world for people who have bought .cc domains. .ws is cheaper to reg most places than .cc so is it better WS WEBSITE or whatever else domainers who have invested in that space say it means. The difference with exts like org or info or mobi or .tv THEY are what they mean they are not domainer rationalizations IMO

Agreed.

I've seen so many .tv websites advertised on television the past few months it makes me wish I had more of them. I've never once heard or seen an ad with a .cc website. .tv is just so much easier to work with when it comes to advertising.

Would have to agree with ManicGirl and rocketfly.

.TV is great for everything 'television'.

.CC is much more generic and a really interesting alternative to .com.

If I had to choose between the two for my own website and assuming that this website was NOT clearly related to anything 'television', I would personally go for .cc (actually without much doubt).

wow. fascinating. the one thing that is a bit absent from this discussion is the wave of video that is about to sweep over the internet over the next 1,2,3 years.

That is going to drive positive change for .tv. See what Budweiser is doing with Bud.tv ($30M investment in 2007) and Demand Media with the Registry as a whole.

So while their pasts might have both been pretty quiet, I can't see what comparable event could get CC to start moving into mainstream acceptance.

I will note that my portfolio is weighted highly toward .tv so perhaps I am badly biased so you can take my comments in that context, BUT, I have had a lot of conversations with non-domainers about .tv and got very quick understanding from them TV is a logical place for video assets.

I think those discussions would be a lot harder explain why .CC and not .net, .biz, .info, .ws, etc.

I gotta say .tv, I see more and more .tv developed sites. .CC is a dead extension. It was the next .com, but .info and .us has chipped it away.
