In american vernacular tv is both the television and the venue.

For example PokerTV.com makes sense meaning "poker show".

I regged pokertelly.com but I imagine it means, "poker tv set" rather than what I meant it to mean. Do people say telly show or something similar?

Am I right?

Having lived in both the UK and US I don't believe I've ever heard an American say telly unless it was while doing a bad English impression :D

I don't understand your answer? Please clarify. I didn't ask how many americans say the word telly.

I asked does tv and telly mean the same thing in their respective vernacular?

or

Can Telly mean "show" and "set" like TV does in america.

Like "put the vase on the tv" and "real tv". The show and the television set.

I understand your question and was pointing out that the point is mute as they don't even use the term 'telly' so it neither means 'show' or 'tv' or 'venue'...it means nothing.

I have a hunch to start registering names like poker.tv (although I hate the .TV extensions), because I think it'll get very popular once IPTV becomes widespread.

What about in the UK, are you referring to americans in the UK too?

Or nobody says it period? Somebody says it in the uk because it shows up in google right behind savalas' name.

tolkien that is kind of what I am trying to figure out.

I have seen some british poker shows popping up, so I want to know if telly refers to show as well as the physical set.

I don't think calling it a "telly show" would really fit if you want to get an audience in North America. It's fine if you are looking at targeting mostly UK visitors, but you should come up with something else if you hope to expand into other countries.
