Categories of tools used by domainers?

There are so many tools available it is often difficult for me to keep them straight.

I was wondering if the experienced domainers here would give their thoughts on the various categories of tools used in this business?

1. "Whois" type tools

2. Traffic ranking tools

3. Link popularity tools

4. Word lists/Keyword generator tools

5. Expiring domain tools

6. Drop catching services

7. Tools or websites that compare and contrast various registrars, parking services, etc.

8. Search engine placement tools

9. Domain name generators

10. Typo tools

11. Bulk name checking tools

12. Domain name administration/monitoring tools

The above seem to be the major categories I am running into as I study this business. This is probably not a complete list and some of the above may actually belong in another category, etc.

I do think it would be helpful to newbies if we could first learn the categories of tools before we attempt to figure out the best tools in the categories.

I doubt there is any drop catching service free

The only free or one time fee, are the scripts that promise you that you will register the desired name the second will be available
In nowadays these don't work
