SLEAFORD, England, May 30 (UPI) -- Thousands of items of Elvis memorabilia are to be auctioned in Britain after their owner was jailed for looting coin of the realm to buy the King's treasures.
Fans are studying a catalogue for next month's auction that could raise nearly $1 million, the Times of London reported Wednesday. Proceeds from the will be used to replace the pilfered funds.
The Crown Prosecution Service is putting the collection up for sale after confiscating it from Julie Wall, 46, who pleaded guilty to theft in 2005 and was jailed for three years.
A cashier for North Kesteven District Council in Sleaford, she was in charge of counting the weekly totals from the council's eight parking lots, taking in about $19,800 in coins each month. Authorities claim she held back hundreds of dollars from each cash box.
When the confiscation order was issued, the amount Wall took was listed as $1.2 million.
