Hey Nameproers! So I got an inquiry email from someone called capvec. It looked like a very generic email and there was no detail given. Their website doesn't give anything away either really. I'm just wondering if anyone else has heard from them or knows anything about them?

I also received their email two days ago. It was an inquiry about one particular domain (one word .com) and other similar names too.

I've been receiving these multiple emails from CapVec too.

Yeah it was for a one word .com with me too but I'm always careful when I receive generic/mass looking emails.

I'm now in the (contacted by) CapVec fraternity/sorority. I thought I was a special unicorn...:(

I have also been contacted. Seems like an investor and since I rarely sell to other investors no deal was made.

Capital Vectors, I'm assuming it's the same bunch. Bargain hunters I'm thinking.

- SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM - - SPAM -

He offered me $300 for a domain I sold two years ago for 5 figures.

They are professional, but I still think eMailing people in bulk is super spammy.

If I was a member on NP and I started scraping whois data and throwing out low offers, I wouldn't leave a breadcrumb trail behind me, just saying. Let's be honest though, we all want names as cheap as we can get them, the problem is I got the same mail regarding the same domain on a few occasions which I didn't appreciate having turned down the offer. Some fine tuning required so not to annoy people.

It could be legit but it smells like a scam to me. Here's why:
  1. A single page website.
  2. The Linkedin page link given on the website's home page is for Michael Grivan but contains no background info about him or the company
  3. The return email address is [email protected]. Huh? This guy Michael Grivan who sent the email can't get his own dedicated email address?
  4. WhoIs shows a Capital Vector Int'l website at capvec.com in 2006 but for the last 10 yrs capvec.com has been parked.
Proceed with caution.

I also received this email. Seems to be pulling information from NamePros. I listed a series of domains for sale here and 30 minutes later I had an email asking for a price on one of them.

I called the phone number on the email/website (1941-256-3131) and got a generic/robotic recording. No mention of CapVec, CapitalVector or Michael Grivan.

Guy went back and forth with me for a 4l .com.

Just another investor, like any of us.

Not really- cause if we were all actively spamming each other with horrible, uninitiated, low ball offers on liquid domains it would get very old very quickly.

Managing emails can be hard enough for large portfolio holders. Thankfully I'm not in that position but I'm pretty sure that guys like this are the reason some sellers have to charge a negotiation fee.

My thoughts exactly and thats why I asked the forum. This is what makes this forum so helpfull. Everyone (most) got eachothers backs.

Conclusions:

Scam> no.
Lowball deal seeker sending mass emails> yes.

I received an e-mail from the same source with a similar request. Yes, I did a diligence search and discovered the same details stated above, viz; the site, the LinkedIn info, etc. Well, I simply responded to the request but I'm yet to get a response. Nothing to lose really, while life goes on, IMO.
