Cancelling Unwanted Domains. How does it work?

I've seen a few people mention (or maybe I picked this up wrong) that its possible to register domain names and if you don't want it you can cancel it and get your money back within 14 days or something?

Is this possible?

Apparently people do it to test traffic?

How does this work?

I'm asking because I have an idea for a number of domains, I think it could be catchy and I might be able to sell the domains for a decent price. But I'd need to invest around $1000 into registering the ones I want... unfortunately I don't have this kind of money to just through around on a test... so if the above is true then maybe I can do it?!

You can cancel within 5 days, and only at some registrars.... The protocol depends depending on which registrar you're talking about

Moniker within 5 days, but you pay a 25 cent fee I believe

Deletion charges vary according to registrar - some charge nothing , others may charge $1

Is there a guide / faq to this stuff anywhere? I'd like to know the exact process of how to cancel and claim refund.

If anyone heres done this before or knows lots about it, could you please say in your opinion which is the best registrar for this. Tell us your experience, ie. how long it takes for the refund, whether theres any complications, charges, etc.
