i would say yes.

make sure the server/ips are in canada too. a canadian company using u.s. servers isn't going to do the trick.

getting a canadian host would only benefit when people click the option "pages from Canada" right?

i have my web design site on US servers but it does now show up under "pages from canada"... it never did before and its a .com

only google knows the specifics of its secret recipe, but getting set up on a canadian server is generally accepted as being better for local seo. and more so should be the case as time goes on and google works more with behavioural targeting and local search.

as for a canadian host recommendation: i've never dealt with one, but good luck!

I really doubt that it matters much. Not sure if Google gives location of server any consideration at all, but even if it does it is only one of many factors considered (and not one of the major ones). otoh it couldn't hurt.

Actually they do take notice of server location.

There are several things they check. Server location is 1 of them, domain extension is another. Other things are web site content but that is harder to pin down to location.

The way I think about SEO is in terms of the user.
If the server is hosted in close to the target market (Canada in this situation) it would benefit the user because of load times. If the user experience of your site is better than another site Google would put the site higher in the Canadian results.

It makes it look like you actually care about the users load times and could be a signal to Google of your targeting.
