Can I reg a 4 letter word without TM issues?

I have found a four letter word that I want to reg. The word is a well known brand name.... an example would be ford, or sony, or nike etc.
If I reg the name will i be putting myself into problems with possible Trademark issues or could I argue that it is a four letter acronym? I won't be developing the site, just parking on sedo

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
if it's a word like ford, sony or nike you can expect to hand over the domain name very soon - that is if you copy their idea or target the same market segment If you make a completely different website with a completely different purpose and information you may actually get away with it :)

Thanks for the reply.

What if I just park it on Sedo and don't optimize the keywords for the adds?

It's more difficult defending a domain that uses a made-up name, especially if
well known. But if it's a series of letters or an acronym like you say, ideally
that's "easier" to defend your use for.

Also make sure it doesn't relate in any way to the trademarked party or even
competitor links in the market the party is known for.
