it is possible to recover your domains, and then sell them, yes. However, when you recover a domain after it has expired there is some kind of "redemption fee". Get in touch with your registrar and talk to them about your domains & the redemption fee.

The rules aren't the same everywhere, so you may have to experiment. Most registrars will allow somewhere beteen a day and a month that you can restore an expired name with no extra cost to your account. Some will block the pushing of expired names, but you could push after you pay it up. Somewhere between a couple weeks and two months, most registrars put a name into "redemption grace" status. This usually means you can recover, but it will cost you dearly. Usually between $60 and $300.

If selling an expired name, it's best to be up front about it in case you can't restore it, or it costs to much to be worthwhile. Just be sure to get enough to cover the renewal, because in some cases you'll have to renew before being able to push it or transfer to a new owner.

not until the domain has been deleted from the registrar database where it currently is being held. You may want to check out an article that describes your question in detail - Click here

Hope that helps :)

also...

I have noticed some domains for sale on Afternic and Sedo that are expired, apparently there are even domains like that on Great Domains... It pays to do a whois search when looking to buy a domain...

Yes, it's hard to remember to delete domains from the sales venues when they are lete expire or even sometimes when sold elsewhere. Afternic does occassionally send notices that names are near expiration, but I don't know that they delete them if not renewed.

You'd think they would watch for this to make some extra money. They could actually track them by the whois and then offer to sell new registrations on them (as a reseller or registrar) once they have expired and deleted without having to deal with commissions or escrow. They could even feed that data to ICANN registrars for a fee percentage. Not only might the be reregistered by a new user, but would already be listed at their site.

Selling Domains before they expire !!

I recently bid on a couple of expiring domains at tdnam.com (go daddy) - they were shown with a buy now button, when I clicked the button thinking I was actually purchasing the domain name it said that the owner of the domain name could reregister their expired name within the next 60 days.

After that time the domain would be moved to my account for my control.

If the owner reclaims the domain they would refund me the money I paid.

While I understand that tdnam get interest from my money in their bank account it does,nt seem right that they are "selling" before the domain name is fully expired !

Anyone have any comments on that process, is it legal or ethical ?

You may list expired domains for sale on NamePros, IF you specify that they are expired and renew the domain prior to transferring it to the new owner.

DO be aware what your costs will be to renew the domain. If a domain slips into Redemption Period, it will cost you quite a bit more than the regular renewal fee to recover the name.
