Just to vent my mind ...

We live in a subdivided 2-10 acreage community - so it's not house-next-to-house.

We have been here for over 30 years.

In the past 5 to 6 years we have had numerous uninvited and unwanted visitors trying to persuade us to their religion.

They are all bold as brass - drive right into our private driveway - even though we have a big (bad dog) notice on the entrance.

I guess they hope to be hit by the dog so they can sue us.

Today, we took a short ride around the neighborhood because we are having such nice mid 70's weather and our german shepherd loves to go for a ride.

I was just closing the gate when this van pulled up and two women hopped out with stacks of black folders and notebooks. This is Sunday afternoon!!

I immediately smelled 'holy roller' even though I had never before seen a woman among their ranks of pests. Guess that is a new strategy.

They fell over themselves complementing and wanting to know the name of my dog. I told them her name was 'dog' in a very strong voice.

Her name is not 'dog' of course, but she is very well trained to respond to that word and came at once to sit by my side.

It took several strong persuasive remarks before they finally got the message and headed out to their next victim.

I am sorry now that I did not have the patience to get the name of their organization, but will surely find out from some of the neighbors.

We find this sort of aggressive intrusion a personal harassment and invasion of our privacy.

Your comments - solutions - criticism ??

Here in NJ we have a policy where people are not allowed to go door to door advertising services or whatever it maybe. I would just tell them to buzz off.

PS - I hope holy roller is not referencing to holyroller.

Hi Susi,

I haven't experienced that since i am living in the States but way back in Germany they bugged the s*** out of us.

What i always did when they tried to talk me into something was following....

I always listened first....gave them the confidence of "hey maybe we have a victim convinced"....and then i grabbed a brochure from a competitive organization (what i always had next to my door) and started talking like them, just more pushy....like"brother, sister(depending on who you face), God just showed up on my doorstep...he came to me with power and force and he convinced me to be a part of (name of the competitor, other organization) and this is the only and truthful and you should convert to us.....yadayadayada( powerful voice with passion like a preacher helps always) :)

Try it, it was always fun for me to see their Jaws dropping and leave.... :hehe:

(Disclaimer:This posting is not intended to make a statement against religions, belief whatsoever, it just reflects my experience and my solutions with this sometimes annoying visits)

Cheers,

Frank

P.S: I have now 5 vicious dogs, when someones just comes near to the front door they are going ape...
maybe that's why i haven't had some visitors lately? :)

what we have here are door-to-door cults (religions), door-to-door beggars fortunately for me im always inside the house in my room so i don't even show my face and just say "patatawarin" (in English: mercy, forgive me) and they just go the next door.
last christmas i was feeling generous and i entertained one of them and even gave some coins you know what a whole battalion came running our gate i guess same with these peddlers

I have recently moved to a nice colony. Where the security guards don't allow anyone in without a gate pass. And they won't allow him out if I don't sign the gate pass that he had a valid reason to enter the colony. :D If someone is trying to break my privacy I really don't sign his gate pass. He walks to the gate and security guard will not allow him out till he has got it signed :D and he comes back and begs to sign it. This time I warn him not to come again and let him off the hook.

I guess it depends on the state and ect , that you live in. Here in Tx, It is simple, Put a "No Soliciting" sign, Above your front door.

I myself had to take it to the next level, I had the same quakes coming to my door as well, I put up a "No Trespassing" sign. In Tx, if they breach it, the police will write them up, a second offense, and they go to jail.

Whenever one of those bible boys come knocking, me & my parents just ignore them & they just carry on to the next house. That's the best way to get rid of them IMO
